The Mutiny of the Punka Wallahs
Prismark1014 August 2023
Battery Sergeant-Major 'Shut Up' Williams is a fighting man. He cannot come into terms with the entertainment troops, especially those such as Gloria who dress up as women.

The latest show has many of the troops dressing up like stars of the 1930s such as Esther Williams. Gunner 'Atlas' Mackintosh is upset that he will have to wear a swimming cap as there are not enough wigs to go round.

However the heat is on when the punka wallahs are to be replaced in the regiment with electric fans. Modernisation fans dissent with the locals as well as the lower ranks.

Gunner Solley wants the troops to employ Rumzun the punka wallah with their own money but only officers are meant to have them.

Soon the other Indian workers such as electricity and telephone employees go on strike in sympathy.

A good episode that shows how progress can be slowed down. In short people need to do the menial tasks in India to make a living. Rumzan is descended from a long line of punka wallahs.

The episode also sees Sergeant-Major Williams developing an abrasive relationship with Gunner 'Lofty' Sugden. The Sergeant-Major forces Lofty to take his salt tablets but Rangi Ram gets him to spit it out.

Meanwhile Colonel Reynolds gets regular hate mail telling him to get out of India.
