Last episode with Noah Bain
CCsito23 August 2009
Warning: Spoilers
This episode was the last one of the second season of It Takes A Thief that included Malachi Throne as Noah Bain, Alexander Mundy's SIA contact. The story dealt with a laser gun that was being developed by Red Chinese agents and where Alexander Mundy was sent to steal the weapon before it could get into the Red Chinese government's possession. Also included in the plot where two SIA agents (one was killed and another turned traitor) and a Japanese Kabuki performer. Alex is sent along with a assistant, Edwina Hopkins, to try to find the laser gun. Edwina proves to be more of a hindrance than help to Alexander. They eventually trace the whereabouts of the laser gun in a warehouse, but are caught and then locked in an impregnable safe that is sealed airtight. Alexander uses a magnet to dial out of the safe and to free Edwina and himself. The SIA agent who turned traitor is himself double crossed by the Red Chinese agent. The Japanese Kabuki performer commits suicide when he realizes that the police were summoned to arrest him. The episode did not show what happened to the laser gun and Red Chinese agents, so it was not concluded properly.

This episode was the last one that starred Malachi Throne as Noah Bain who was the SIA contact for Alexander Mundy the first two seasons of this TV show. When the third season was begun, the Noah Bain character was dropped and Alexander was sent to Italy. The third season was a big change from the previous two seasons. Much of the humor and witty dialog of the first two seasons disappeared in the third season and many of the Italy based episodes seemed to focus more on the Italian scenery than on the episode storyline. It was like the show became some kind of travel show of Italy instead of focusing on the initial storyline of this TV series. The plots of many of the episodes of the third season looked like that went with no direction and Alexander seemed like some kind of rogue agent who no one actually controlled. The third season series did much to lose much of the audience that were built up in the first two seasons. The TV show did attempt to go back to the original formula around halfway in the third season, but by that time the damage had been done and the show was canceled after the conclusion of the third season. The show was very well done in the first two seasons and for some reason, the TV producers and directors decided to change the format of the show in the third season. This change was one for the worst and killed the show.

Serious episode...and ED's back!
JamesSaintRave24 August 2013
This episode has Mundy sent to Japan to retrieve a laser from Red Chinese agents. Accompanying him, to his dismay, is SIA scientist Dr. Edwina Hopkins, played to the hilt by the talented Sharon Acker. The entire episode is done seriously, with a sense of doom looming over it, as if Mundy has a feeling this might be the mission that does him in--and he might be right. What makes this one so good is Acker and Wagner's chemistry--the third, and best pairing of their characters. Mundy does not want her there, too dangerous--and she has to constantly remind him she is SIA, for better or worse (for 1969, the start of the woman's lib movement, the idea of a smart and capable woman equally risking her life for her country was cutting edge stuff). Ms. Acker STEALS the show here, hands down. I remember seeing this episode when it first aired as a child. Let me just say the lovely Sharon gave a 6 year old some funny feelings! My alternate title: "Well, if your going to get locked in a safe..."
