Don't you wish at times that you could be invisible? I'm sure George does right about now, as he's being forced to act as a guinea pig for Spacely's nephew Orwell's latest experimental spot remover. After covering George in all kinds of crap, the invention proves ineffective. Fed up with his nephew's ineptitude, Spacely throws the spray out. Now I've heard that one man's trash is another man's treasure, but I've never known anyone to take that literally. Except now. We see Harlan robbing the dumpster outside Spacely's and take it all to Cogswell. While walking to his car, grumbling about the experiments, George suddenly disappears, leaving only his clothes. It is a family show after all. En route home, the cops pull him over for speeding, even though we clearly saw he was barely moving, and thankfully they're spooked away by the invisible man. Well, a pair of blue pants, white shoes and a green belt comes home and phones Spacely on his predicament, which he sees as a big moneymaker and doesn't help at all. Worse yet, Jane comes home soon after from...doing something, which brings me to our subplot: Jane's got a secret. It involved some young man coming by whom she tried poorly to hide from the rest of the family. So you have to wonder what's going on?
George must now sneak into Cogswell's Cogs and get the spray back. No one will notice him, being invisible and all. So he wanders in, and so far it goes pretty smoothly, but wouldn't you know it, it's at that moment the invisibility starts to wear off. Now I find it odd that when George regains his visibility, he's fully clothed and yet when he went invisible before, his clothes stayed visible. But then, it is a family show. But wait, when he becomes visible again, he isn't wearing clothes. Could the animators not make up their minds? Anyway, it turns out the invisibility spray is losing its touch, but it manages to keep George out of sight long enough for him to spy on Jane, who was at the Moonglow Cafe with that young man from earlier. Thinking his wife was leaving him, a now-visible, stark naked George grabs her, steals a woman's coat and bolts for the car. That's when the whole mess is laid out: she was only rehearsing for a play. Using the invisibility spray to his advantage, George stops the car, sprays the two of them, enabling them to have sex in public. Yep, it's a family show.
I wish this episode were invisible. It's just not appealing or entertaining. It's almost a rehash of Season 1's "The Little Man", and it's just another entry in a long running series of George being Spacely's chew toy. "Invisibly Yours, George" is not funny and it's dull. But I will give then credit for Jane's subplot, dumb as it was. It really did keep me guessing, and I also like the moment of goodness Spacely exhibits where he throws a cake at Randy, thinking he's trying to put the moves on Jane. That shows deep down he really does care. But other than that, this one pretty much blows. Needless to say, Season 3 is a letdown thus far. They're just rehashing old, tired ideas and gags we've seen 100 times. For crying out loud, just because the show originated in the 1960s, does that mean they had to carry over ALL the ideals into the '80s? Don't they realize that there were some things that worked in the '60s that do not work in the '80s. Thus, it makes the Jetsons look dated. Trying something NEW would not have killed them. Anyway, episode sucks. Moving on...
