Cute little story.

A typical topic for the whole family at lunch time, this story of a young couple adopting a gifted child; more, a genius, then facing some issues related to this adoption. This scheme could prevent some real life couples to adopt children, at least make them think twice before taking this decision. Interesting idea to present here, a problem that could be very close to actual life situations. That's not a comedy but a light oriented drama. Not bad episode but not the peak of the show.

My Child Is Yet a Stranger
Prismark1016 April 2024
A story with a disturbing subtext. I wonder if it is based on a true incident.

Adam Shepherd has been invited to a small Southern town by Martha Elweiss (Lee Meriweather) a newspaper editor.

Adam is there because a small clever girl who has already been adopted is not involved in a custody battle.

Rene-Sue Apple is a certified genius. The state officials believe that her uneducated adoptive parents are unsuitable to raise her.

They have come to take the child away but their lawyer has got an injunction. Now there will be a custody hearing behind closed doors.

A sentimental story with Lloyd Bridges getting to try out his southern drawl. There is a genuine question as to how much power the state should have regarding the upbringing of a child. Here the state officials now believe that Rene-Sue's parents are unfit parents because they in essence are poor and working class.
