***SPOILERS*** Getting into a fight with his boss night club owner Joe DaLiso, Robert Osterich, over some money that he owes him bald headed saxophone player Barney Texter, Lawrence Dobkin, fractured his skull with his saxophone killing him. It turned out that the just fired night club waiter Ben Riker, Harry Jackson, got framed for Daliso's death in being the first person at the crime scene. M-Squad Let. Frank Ballinger, Lee Marvin, feels that there's something more to DaLiso's death and checks out the Chicago musician union of all it's members who are both bald and plays the saxophone as describer by Riker, who saw the killer fleeing the scene, to to track down his killer.

As for the now on the run Texter he leaves a trail of clues to where he is by first shaking down his estranged wife beauty shop owner Rebecca, Judy Lawrence, for money and then ending up getting a job as a saxophone player at a local strip joint the sky high "Roof Garden" to have an income to play for the saxophone's upkeep. It's there that Let. Ballinger with the help of knowing what tune he plays, the only one he knows, something called "Here Comes Rebecca" tracks down the bald headed guy now using the name Bud Wilson who's also now wearing a wig to disguise his identity.

***SPOILERS*** Trapped on the roof of the strip joint or night club Texter tried to jump 26 floors without parachute to his death in order for him to escape capture. Let. Ballinger has some trouble in preventing Texter from killing himself but nevertheless ends up saving his life. With Texter caught and confessing to his crime has the innocent Ben Riker released from jail. As for the hard luck Texter he got a brake in escaping the electric chair in that him killing DaLiso was ruled a homicide not murder and gets 4 years behind bars for it. A, if you can call it that, lucky brake on his part!
