He Could Have Told Them in the First Place
Hitchcoc8 March 2015
A trio of men come in in the cover of darkness and try to steal penicillin from the pharmacy. Two escape but the third is captured and held. Colonel Flagg shows up shortly thereafter, saying he is investigating the problem with stolen penicillin. He does his usual dog and pony show, threatening everyone, abusing himself, and going after the prisoner. When they are finally together, Flagg lets the guy go and then runs his head through a bureau. This is what saves the episode. The logic of the men seeking the penicillin seems strained at best. But watching Flagg and the byplay with Henry and the other guys is priceless. They parceled him out well in these episodes or he would have just been to comedic in the most sadistic way.

Colonel Flagg

Warning: Spoilers
White Gold is the second (or penultimate) last episode of season 3, where we reach the end of the tenure of Trapper John and Colonel Blake, and also the end of the madcap and laughs (or laffs) era that personified the first three seasons of M*A*S*H which is one of the finest TV series of all time (along with Community and Parker Lewis Can't Lose).

Anyway, here Colonel Flagg is in his element and it's a shame there was no spin-off series for Colonel Flagg. I know some people don't like the more serious tone that M*A*S*H had from season four, but still I like it very much.

Penicillin is also a subplot in this episode.
