Drop-in neighbour
Rrrobert27 November 2019
Lou moves in to Rhoda's old apartment and becomes an annoying neighbour, which creates tensions at work.

This one reuses familiar elements. Ted once toyed with moving in to Mary's building to her horror - Lou helped avert that disaster. Then Lou started showing up at Mary's each night, causing tensions. In another episode Phyllis arranged to sell Lou's house but he felt terrible about selling it and pulled out of the deal.

Overall this episode is quite mean spirited but not very funny. The running time is padded out with complaints and blathering from Ted.

This time Mary is dating some new guy not the WJM sportscaster. Whether that created tensions at the station is never explored.

Recipe for Disaster
Hitchcoc21 February 2017
Lou has had all kinds of trouble with his house. The roof. The plumbing. Mary makes the mistake of saying, "Why don't you sell it?" Lou immediately agrees. Now he will need a place to live. Well, remember Rhoda? She had that apartment by Mary. Guess which apartment is available for rent. So Lou moves in and begins to make it hell for Mary. He is so insensitive, he never has an inkling of how pushy and obnoxious he is. Mary does everything she can to dissuade him, knowing how awful it would be to have him as a neighbor. It gets pretty funny when Mary brings a date home and Lou is sleeping on the couch. Not only that. When the boyfriend wakes him, Lou slugs him. There is also some funny stuff with Ted. Because Lou is mad at Mary, he tells Ted his right about something. What ensues is hilarious. Very good episode.

Mary cannot muster the courage to simply be honest.

Warning: Spoilers
Lou Grant sells his house after getting a little bit of friendly encouragement from Mary.

Lou now needs a new place to live. Lou visits Mary in her apartment after work and finds out through Bess,(the apartment owner Phyliss's young daughter that is visiting Mary) that there is an available apartment in the building.

Mary tries, unsuccessfully,to hush/quiet Bess,to stop her from telling Lou Grant about the available apartment. Mary figures that having Mr Grant live in the same building as she does would just be too-much.

Lou Grant is Mary's boss, and they are friends despite occasional disagreements. Mary is afraid that she and Mr Grant being around each other all the time will cause problems eventually, both at work and at home.

Mary and Lou will get sick of each other and it could needlessly spoil a nice relationship.

Knowing both characters as we do,Mary is most-likely correct, the two of them living in the same building would probably be too-much.

The problem is,Mary is too tactful and too nice to speak plainly with Lou and tell him this.

Mary lacks the nerve to speak the obvious, and Lou being her boss doesn't make it any easier.

Lou does move into the building, and it doesn't take long for Mary to realize that her first instincts were correct.

Will Mary be able to tell Mr Grant her true feelings?

Watch and see,and tell us what YOU think!

Solid episode, not the best but certainly not bad.8/10.
