The infamous 'controversial' ending that's also the beginning.

Welcome to the final ever episode, it's a real blast, and all I can say is wow, the writers really ended the series right. It's definitely not to everyone's liking, but I personally find it perfectly satisfying. While by no means graphic or anything, the deaths of both Virgil and Norman are very unpleasant to see, and the first five minutes are one of the most powerful moments in the series, as poor Norman is swallowed whole by the mammoth blue spider he once dreaded from "Along came Arachnoid." But he at least goes down fighting till the bitter end and never shows any fear, so he dies admirably in that sense. His final words as Skullmaster gloats over his doom are so typical of the guardian: "Talk talk talk!" And with Virgil it's almost like he doesn't die as such, he just immediately explodes in a puff of magical energy. And the idiotic Warmonger should have seen what was coming to him after his earlier failed betrayal. The hectic plot of this one mainly focuses on Max as he desperately races to find any solution to stop Skullmaster. And the one that he comes up with is pretty good, as with no heroes left, he journeys to his archenemies' old lair at the center of the Earth and manages to persuade the still vengeful Lava-Lord to aid him in his fight against Skullmaster, and the royal rumble that follows that sees Lava-Lord pit his rebuilt Magus battle robot against the evil one's controlled clock-tower titan Fuath is a pretty spectacular sequence until Skullmaster simply uses the power of the Crystal to banish him to the bowels of the underworld once again. Nobody ever even hurts Skullmaster, he's dang invincible by this point! And he just radiates slick menace as always and is possibly the most wicked he's been yet here, he's flat out the most evil character I've ever seen in any animated series. He may not be killed or even technically defeated, but Max still finds a way to thwart him of his victory and beat him at his own game! And after Max has leaped onto Skullmaster's arm in a futile effort to disrupt the ritual and the mystical energy transfers onto him and Skullmaster says "It's you" in complete astonishment, I think it means that it was Max who was truly special all along and the Cap was just a means to an end. And the animation of the scene is absolutely phenomenal as time starts to wind backwards and day and night spiral past faster and faster, the whole scene is just epic and immense, I can't even do it justice. And then there it is...bam! Right back to the very beginning... And I love it, I think it's beautifully done. There they are, alive and stronger than ever because now they have the foreknowledge and experience that'll give them the edge they never really had before, and the far more mature Max will yet fulfil his destiny one day... To me it feels somehow complete, there's like a full-circle effect to it. Sometimes when a show ends it can leave you feeling a little empty, but in this case the way it ends it feels like the adventures never end, and that's how it should be, because it was a show that was unconventional in some strong and significant ways, and it never went in a straight line and ended on its own terms. I mean what other animation ever dared to end as this one does? And if you can't appreciate that I'm sorry, I can't care about that people say about "Oh, it doesn't have a real ending, it just jumps-the-shark and goes back to the start again". No way man, that climax freaking rocked! I will defend this show to the death!!! At least it actually had an ending, unlike more than a few other great animated shows I know of that were unfairly cancelled mid-season and remain forever unconcluded. And it's most certainly not an infinity-loop time paradox, that would have only been the case if none of the characters had never remembered anything. All in all, a stellar wrap-up to an excellent and classic series. A finale and a show to remember, don yer caps to the Max, and LONG LIVE MIGHTY MAX!!!!!!

Really Not as Bad As You Think

As really after Norman dies by a spider his Achilles Heels and Virgil urged Max not to try to save him and do not trust Skullmaster as that Max however did and Virgil disappeared.

Knowing it could cost him his young life, Max finally gives the cap back but then takes it to return back to the beginning. He does not remember anything at first but really now remembers as much more mature and will this time fulfill destiny.

There was to be a wrap up movie that never got to the final stages. As you can only hope for a reboot there. Long live Max, Virgil, and Norman!
