Beat cops Mancini (a sturdy portrayal by Tony Shalhoub) and Parkhurst (a nicely antsy turn by John Christopher Jones) discover a homeless man with no arms. They inform their chief inspector (well played to the hearty hilt by always reliable character actor Clifton James) that they have been running across many folks who are missing limbs while making their rounds.
Director John Tillinger not only keeps the enjoyable and engrossing story moving along at a snappy pace, but also brings a pleasing pulpy sensibility to the nifty premise. The shadowy cinematography by Steven Ross and the moody jazz score both further enhance the overall funky crime noir atmosphere. The big reveal about what's going on is grotesque and imaginative in equal measure. Spot-on surprise grim ending, too. A cool show.
