Dig Those, Like, Crazy Indians, Man!

Herman the dictator decides (even after all the votes went against him) that the family will vacation at Buffalo Valley. Everyone else wanted to go to the beach.

Even though this was the 1960s we see the Munsters taking the trip by train. By the '70s, I think, this was being phased out as airplane travel became cheaper and cheaper and, of course, a lot faster. I mention the train because their adventures on the train take up the first part of this story. The best scene is a man reading a ghost story to himself about a dead lady "coming to life still wearing the shroud in which she was buried" when Lily peeks into his berth.

The second part occurs after Herman gets off the train at Indian Flats, falls asleep reading a brochure and then discovers the train left without him. As Herman walks to the nearest town he comes across a tribe of Indians who are pretty humorous, two of them talking '60s jive (and with a New York City accent!). They put on a show for tourists but are bored. An old man in the tribe says prosperity will return when the ancient mighty spirit something-or- other returns from the desert. They just laugh at him. The old man points to the totem pole honoring the legend who looks a lot like Herman. Soon, Herman wanders in and.......you guessed it! An instant legend!

The last five minutes is easily the best part of the so-so show, and the two Indians mentioned above provided the most laughs to me.
