Parker's rival
safenoe7 February 2024
Warning: Spoilers
I'm very much enjoying re-watching Parker Lewis Can't Lose, after having first watched it when it debuted in the early 1990s. Anyway, it's hard to believe this sadly underrated series debuted over 30 years ago, yet it's incredibly timeless.

Power Play sees Parker facing up to a rival, Matt Styles, played by Kevin Wixted. I sometimes wonder what happened to Kevin Wixted, although I see there's a Kevin Wixted who is a professor of art, so maybe that's him.

Anyway, the battle between Parker and Matt is hilarious, with Jerry being seduced by the dark side but thankfully he returns to Parker at the end.

Santo Domingo isn't big enough for two Parker Lewis sized egos...

Parker doesn't seem to have any real competition throughout his High School career. Then a transfer student, Matt Stiles, threatens to steal Parker's glory. A classic one-oneupmanship follows as Parker loses his grip on the control over Santo Domingo. It's a trip as with every turn you can't imagine Parker's world falling apart any more and yet it does. The more he tries to outdo Matt he has to rethink his strategy before he completely fades from the spotlight at Santo Domingo. A clever plot overall as the ending is hard to predict. Even Musso is under Matt Stiles spell along with everyone at Santo Domingo. I'd recommend this episode as it begs the question, Can Parker Lewis actually lose?
