One Christmas, to Go (#5.10)
ComedyFan20107 April 2018
Warning: Spoilers
It is Christmas. Daphne's mother comes but leaves after a confrontation. Owen is jealous of Diana and steals the baby Jesus. Ned lies to Julia about a deadline of his paper so she stays over helping him.

A pretty great episode. I liked the whole story with Daphne's mother. The confrontation her and Daphne had when Daphne figures out what made her the way she is. It also seems Daphne will go away. I think it is a good thing. She deserves to be happy. And she always told Charlie she didn't want the kid. He said he will take care of it. Time to stand up to his word.

What I also loved was the thing with Griffin. The whole conversation Charlie had with him how if he isn't family than he doesn't know who is because Griffin and Claudia are the ones who want to be at home. They were the three really having a good time when everyone left, a very sweet scene.

Unhappiness in Christmas

Warning: Spoilers
Despite some good episodes, season 5 still seems that lost the original plot. The siblings are all apart and basically there are no family moments for them at all. Daphne's mother makes a surprise visit (along her boyfriend) and Charlie acts like an idiot welcoming her warmly without having a clue about the woman. Daphne instead, does everything perfect and mistreats her because her mother is faking and pretending. Turns out that she was a terrible mother, always prioritizing anything like a boyfriend, always disappointing Daphne and choosing other people instead of her. Daphne is very aware of all of this and fights with Charlie because he is acting like a stupid wanting a grandmother for Diana who never had affection for Daphne. To make things worse, this strange woman sends Kirsten home because she was friendly with Diana and Charlie. Of course, Daphne defends Kirsten, because she knows that she needs her help, "she is my salvation", she said. Daphne's mother was a really bad person, so I'm glad that at the end she left. Poor Daphne. That's also why Charlie's attitude was so annoying, he was more warm to this woman now than to Ellie Bennett in Analogies. Besides, Charlie was still mad at Griffin and Claudia. Fortunately in the last two scenes he forgave them and accepted his previous mistakes in Gifts. Daphne says goodbye to her mother and then is tempted to leave in the station. Finally, she returns home and from outside sees Charlie, Griffin and Claudia opening gifts. The best of this episode was Daphne. Here was showed that her terrible mother caused a big damage in her. Daphne is not a bad person, she is a good one, but her childhood was really hard, and affected her forever, making hard for her to be a mother for Diana now. Here, Charlie should have defended Daphne instead of taking her mother's side. But his part was bad again, which makes him a totally different person of the man he was seasons ago.

Another bad points of this episode, besides Daphne's mother, were Ned's possesive attitude and Owen's bad behavior. While staying at Bailey's place, Owen is still deeply jealous of Diana and hates Charlie. He doesn't prepare a gift for him and breaks Sarah's gift. She tells Bailey to do something but he doesn't want to mistreat him in Christmas. Then, the kid steals a baby Jesus from a church during a celebration where he had to dress like a goat. In the house, Bailey gives him a hard time with Sarah's support, and although he cries then he accepts leaving with Bailey, refusing to be with Charlie. This feels bad because I remember very well all the things Charlie did for Owen since season 1, so I don't get Owen's behavior. It's like he doesn't remember all the last seasons, like if the Cavarno twins didn't portray Owen. He can be jealous of Diana but he can't hate Charlie, is not fair, is unbelievable. Jealousy exists often in families with siblings and newborns, but this is getting unrealistic considering past seasons. Both of them, Charlie and Owen are out character, their attitudes are not consistent with their "father-son" relationship. On the other hand, Ned staged a plan to forbid Julia to see her family, and when Julia finds out, she rushes to home but it's too late: Claudia was out buying food, Sarah, Bailey and Owen left, while Charlie and Griffin were in the shed. So incredibly she returns to Ned and forgives him. Pretty annoying that Julia turns her back on her family.
