Richard Crenna brings "Laugh-In" back to its hilarity!
tavm9 September 2019
Warning: Spoilers
After two underwhelming eps, "Laugh-In" seems to be firing on all cylinders again with this one. Richard Crenna is the special guest star of this one as he does his teen Walter Denton character again, narrates a speeded-up silent bit called Cuckoo Cavaliers, and plays an absent-minded general, among other things. The Mod World looks at religion to funny and nonoffensive effect. Ernestine visits Dan & Dick on stage and they mention her album, but when she mentions the title, Dan reminds her that NBC does not allow direct plugs on the show. (Of course, if his and Dick's movie-The Maltese Bippy-had been a hit, it would have been mentioned at least once during the show's third season!) Anyway, Ernestine then threatens to pull the network's plug! There's also some leftover Marcello Mastroianni scenes and some Fernando Lamas additions. Oh, and then-reigning Miss USA Debbie Sheldon also appeared years before I saw her on "Dallas" as Mandy Winger and she was billed as "Deborah". Gladys has some hilarious ones with Marcello and her. And then here's this Joke Wall line about the just-added Constitutional Amendment: Dan: "Hey, Richard, who do you think will be most effected by the 18-year-old right to vote?" Richard Crenna: "70-year-old members of congress!" This "Laugh-In" ep gets a 10!
