One of the Best of Season Nine
Samuel-Shovel6 July 2019
Warning: Spoilers
In "The Burning" Jerry starts dating a girl whose hiding some unknown "Tractor Story" from him. George starts walking out of meetings and situations on a high note, regardless of when it occurs. Kramer and Mickey start gigs pretending to have illnesses for med student evaluations and soon get into arguments about which disease they get to have. Elaine finds out that Puddy's religious; she's upset he doesn't care that she's going to hell.

This is one of the best eps of the final season. All the storylines really work nicely. I love the chemistry that Mickey and Kramer have in their episodes together. Elaine and Puddy are almost always great as a couple. The gonorrhea tractor bit is one for the Seinfeld greatest hits reel. It's all just really well done.

One of the best episodes of Seinfeld ever
AlsExGal5 September 2015
Warning: Spoilers
This is one of the best episodes of Seinfeld. It really shows what this series was all about.

Of course you know the whole show is really about showing how three extremely selfish people - and one weirdo (Kramer) who seems blind to their selfishness - somehow manage to carry on a dysfunctional multi-year friendship. Elaine is despondent because she finds out her boyfriend, Puddy, is a Christian and believes that she is going to hell. At the end of the episode, Elaine and Puddy go to a priest to settle this matter of Elaine going to hell. The priest says that since they are living in sin that they are BOTH going to hell. Elaine is elated that the score is evened and starts telling Hell jokes to the priest. I think that this is the point, that IF there is a Hell and she is going there, Puddy better be going there too or she does not have satisfaction! She is that selfish. She doesn't care about heaven or God or even if they exist, she just wants parity.

In a parallel story, Jerry finds out, through deceptive tactics, that his new girlfriend hasn't told him "the tractor story". He and George spend the whole episode trying to figure out what that could be, figuring it must be some scar or deformity she received while working with one. At the end it is revealed that she got gonorrhea from driving a tractor in her bathing suit - or at least that is what her boyfriend at the time told her, proving that there are worse people out there other than common criminals and our loathsome but hilarious trio of George, Jerry and Elaine. Enjoy. The fun is in the delivery, not the story details.

"The Old Switcheroo"
mackjay220 August 2010
One of the funniest Season 9 Seinfeld episodes, "The Burning" has some of the best dialog in the series. And some of the best plot lines: Elaine's dilemma with Puddy's religious belief (Patrick Warburton's deadpan at its best); Kramer's acting out diseases for medical students; George's crazy employer Mr. Kruger (very funny Daniel von Bargen) and George's "going out on a high note"; best of all, Jerry's girlfriend and the mysterious "tractor story" (the resolution of that one is classic Seinfeld). When George asks him what a gander is, Jerry says that a gander is a goose who had "the old switcheroo" pulled on her. Incredibly silly stuff, but hilarious from start to finish.

I Fell Off My Chair!

There are so many hilarious things here, I don't know where to start. First of all we have George, trying to impress the board where he works, but realizes that when he says something clever, he must get up and leave to intensify the effect. His crazy boss decides that this is the way for him to act as well. Meanwhile. Elaine finds out that Puddy is religious and when she asks him if that is true he wants to carry on a relationship with her, despite the fact that she is going to hell. When they go to a priest he delivers bad news for Puddy. The topper is Kramer who along with his friend go to a medical school to pretend they have diseases so the interns can diagnose. Kramer draws gonorrhea. His use of the word adds all kinds of hilarity and the fight ensues later is hilarious. One the two or three better episodes.

Daniel Dae Kim stars as Student #1
safenoe15 April 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Before Daniel Dae Kim became a huge superstar, he played a medical student in The Burning, from season nine of Seinfeld. I first became a fan of Seinfeld when I first watched it on its debut back in the 1990s, and it's been interesting to re-watch many of the episodes years later, and to reflect on them. Anyway, it's interesting about the religious issues in this episode, and it reminds me of The Simpsons and how some of their episodes explored similar themes, like the episode where Bart got an F. Anyway, we are getting close to the end of the series again and again thanks to reruns for each new generation to enjoy Seinfeld.

Do what thou wilt
ThunderKing627 March 2023
You knew Seinfeld was losing it when characters arrive and whine about nothing. All through Season's 9 it seemed redundant.

In early seasons they whined a bit, but it seemed natural.

Elaine complaining about Christian music is silly. Plus why did they see a catholic guy? Catholic and basic Christians are under the same umbrella, but they are different in a few ways. They should have seen a pastor instead.

March 27th 2023rd

What is this episode about?: Elaine is making a huge deal out of Puddy being a basic Christian.

Kramer acts out diseases.

Jerry tries to find out about the tractor story.

George goes out in showmanship while Kruger goes around 3 times "it was all him".

The Story and the Production Overview: An okay episode. I think with over 4 meaningless stories, it's hard to flesh out all 4 and make them more interesting.

The tractor segment was the best part. George with a lazy boss was also cool. Everyrthing else who cares,

highlight: Jerry on the phone. *beep beep beep*.

Laugh meter: 5

What can be learned?: Lazy boss means either slack off or burn

Verdict: Let it buuuuurn...
