Elizabeth Bellamy marries.
arrival18 July 2010
Warning: Spoilers
Having run away from home in the previous episode; Elizabeth Bellamy is staying with her friend Henrietta Winchmore. Here is where she falls in love with the visiting Poet, Lawrence Kirbridge. Her parents wish her to marry; Elizabeth prefers simply to 'live together'. Her parents get their way of course, but all does not bode well for Elizabeth, when even as she marries, has 'unspoken' doubts about her future husband's sexuality...

This episode sees Doris (played by Maggie Welles) sadly, having left the series. She's been replaced by the marvellous Sylvia Brayshay as the very entertaining 'Nelly', (unfortunately, only ever to do the one episode - a great pity...), and the return of Sarah (Pauline Collins) as her affair with Captain James Bellamy is re-newed! Due to its huge success by the time of this final episode in the first season; 'Upstairs, Downstairs' was assured continued success for the next five years! NOTE: In view of the next season, and for continuity purposes; the date for this episode should read 'June 1908' not '1909' as suggested by the title credits.
