Could have been better
pfors-647-50149720 April 2013
Moderately enjoyable episode leaves impression it could have been better. A little more zip in the storytelling was needed, but the real issue is the casting of Peter Graves as the tycoon. Always dependable as a leading man, Graves seems too gentlemanly to be fully persuasive as a scheming big-time operator. Muscular strutting peacock Richard Jaeckel hits bulls-eye in a slyly sinister role though, and McClure unleashes his vitality as the frustrated suitor, turning his punch-up with Graves into a slapstick romp. This was Randy Boone's second appearance as guitar-strumming backwoods vagabond Randy Benton, who hires on at Shiloh. Boone's disarming personality and musicianship freshened many episodes.

The robber baron
bkoganbing30 August 2019
In this Virginian story Peter Graves is a robber baron who is looking to consolidate the meatpacking business and he's bought a spread to see from whence the beef he packs in Chicago comes.

James Drury is a good teacher, maybe too good. Graves makes friends with all except Doug McClure. Good reason there, he woos and wins Janet Hale from him.

But there's a contract put out on Graves by one of his business competitors and Richard Jaeckel an old friend of Trampas has the job.

Both Graves and Jaeckel do well as guest stars. A good episode.

That little guy is no peacock

Ooooh my gosh - I'm responding to (i think it's "pfhor" & some numbers blah blah) but that was like nine years ago & can't get this ONE LOL COMMENT out of my head! Actually just stopped watching show so i could type this & hopefully that'll be the end of it! Ok. Never seen this episode which gave me more reason to come here & check everything out before perusing. Enjoy doing that. Just kinda browsed through the "reviews" - TOTALLY MY FAULT. Yes. This entire time I've been viewing, waiting for Trampas's friend. The MUSCULAR STRUTTING PEACOCK! I'm imagining ... well over six feet tall, broad shoulders, barrel chest, ya know, BIG. DUDE. So anyhow, when this guy "Wade" shows up, it (he) never even occurred to me! ... Wait, the PEACOCK I've been waiting for is ... THIS 'lil dude?!? BUAAHAAHAA!! Listen, my husband was (looked up Richard's stats) also 5'7" and he was muscular. Richard was a cute little guy & seemed a good actor (sorry, not real familiar) but a muscular strutting peacock he was NOT nor could ever be. ... ok sorry I'm prolly only here because MY peacock just died three months ago. No doubt I'm being completely irrational right now. But still, the weird painful knot in my chest eased up as soon as I began typing. Don't worry, I sound nuts to myself too. Ok. May I just say, TY if you're still actually reading this tripe - you've become an unwilling participant in helping me work out some issues- & very sorry if I offended anyone - NOT my intention. At all. So Peter Graves did a great job (lol I hated him) & overall i enjoyed the episode. Just ... I know Trampas can be (?) rambunctious but when the writers call for him to be oh! SUCH a JERK! It makes my skin crawl. Guess those "jerk" scenes are supposed to be the humorous part. I didn't think so. Ok so then: EVERYBODY HAVE a GREAT REST of YOU'RE LIVES! & never never ever take them for granted.
