A City of genteel corruption
bkoganbing18 December 2019
This Virginian episode takes us to New Orleans a city off traditional genteel corruption. James Drury and Gary Clarke have delivered a herd there, gotten paid off and want to do the town. Drury meets a lady of some mystery in Madlyn Rhue and then she disappears after setting Drury and Clarke quite neatly. They are saved by New Orleans detective Skip Homeier.

Usually it's The Virginian who's the experienced one, but here he's the babe in the woods. Rhue winds up dead and connected to the shooting death of a New Orleans big wig.

It's a sadder and wiser Virginian who goes back to Shiloh here.

Excellent.

Entertaining. Great acting. Intertwined as a work of art. I am not sure why others have not reviewed it as highly. I have seen every Virginian episode and this also deserves a place at the top. As to the concern as to why the Virginian would be so concerned about someone he had a brief encounter with, well, love does interesting things to people. The 19th century relationships are not like more modern ones. It is not that hard to understand.
