Ending saved this show.

The story begins with an Rebel soldier escaping a Union prison. While being chased, the prisoner is shot in the leg and left to die in the open prairie. The prisoner, Del Gray (Paul Richards) happens up on a home that is occupied by two women. One of the ladies is very elderly while the other is young woman named Laura Fletcher (Anne Baxter). She has been left at the house while her husband rides to town.

Laura mends the wounded soldier but it seems that the soldier is looking for more from the house. In fact the wounded man has eyes for the lady of the house. Then a situation happens that will put Laura's life in immediate danger.

Even though the episode had two wonderful actors, for some reason the story felt long. There was a nice twist at the end of the show but otherwise it was a slow paced tale. The ending did make the show worthy but could have been better with at least some more action.

Divided loyalties
bkoganbing1 November 2016
Anne Baxter gets the top billing in this Zane Grey Theater story about the wife of a Union Army prison guard who's been embezzling government money for his own investments in war supplies. Rumors of a Confederate surrender may leave Charles Gray with a whole lot of goods he can't give away and cash poor.

While Gray's away escaped Confederate prisoner Paul Richards arrives and Baxter who is not happy with her husband's activities gets a case of divided loyalties. It doesn't help that Richards after he cleans up a bit ain't a bad looking fellow.

There is an interesting but not entirely unexpected ending to this story. The ensemble cast does well here.
