A simple premise and one of Red Dwarf's best episodes

Rimmer and Lister find themselves stuck on an icy planet in Starbug waiting to be rescued.

Any TV show where two people can hold my attention and entertain with just conversation, whilst stuck in the same location for near enough the duration of the episode, is always held in high regard. Richie and Eddie did it on the Ferris-wheel, Fletcher and Godber did it in their jail cell, Steptoe and Son did it in many episodes, and in Marooned, Lister and Rimmer do it well.

Yes, there is a bit of science fiction going on, but this is about one thing: Banter. Rob Grant and Doug Naylor wrote some great dialogue for this episode and the performances of Craig Charles and Chris Barrie do it justice. It's not only funny but provides great insight into both characters.

For me this is the best episode of the Series 3 and one of my favourite episodes of Red Dwarf.

A character study of astronomical hilarity

There is not much you can say to someone who did not grow up with this, either when it was released, or inherited from older siblings or your parents. It is without doubt one of the greatest comedy character pairings (Rimmer and Lister) ever to reach the television screen and followed in the footsteps of Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy. The absurdity of each of their outlooks come together in 'Marooned' when they are lost and alone with only each other for company. The underhandedness of each is insurmountable and the most dastardly trickery is employed even in the face of certain death. The cast and writers are on top comedy form for series three and although it may lack some of the isolation woven into the previous two series, it makes up for it with pure comedy power. Not to be missed by anyone who grew up in a truly dysfunctional family.

Marooned

I'm just repeating myself at this point, but Red Dwarf is so unbelievably amazing! The "plot twist" at the end of this episode was even better than the Sixth Sense...OK maybe not that good but still amazing nonetheless!
