With the actor’s strike finally over, Matthew Lillard can finally talk about the plum role he has in Five Nights at Freddy’s. In a recent THR interview, Lillard mentioned being thrilled about how fans have reacted to the film, noting:
“Being 53 years old — and being around the block a couple times — I have a much deeper sense of appreciation in this moment than I probably have ever had because I didn’t expect it. I realize that these opportunities don’t come around that often. It’s been a really rich, joyful moment because I can sort of sit back and appreciate it on a deeper level.”
Lillard’s character, who has a rich mythology in the game, could well wind-up being a recurring presence in the Five Nights at Freddy’s world, especially with the film such a huge hit in theaters and on Peacock. But, it turns...

The filmmaking duo Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, colloquially referred to as Lord & Miller, have established their reputation for taking films that sound like terrible ideas and — like Rumpelstiltskin — spinning self-aware, slapstick comedic gold out of them. Lord & Miller's first film was "Extreme Movie," one of the final films in the unfortunate trend of really, really awful spoof films that plagued the 2000s. They made their mark, however, with a 2012 film adaptation of the 1988 TV show "21 Jump Street," which transformed a "serious" and "important" TV show about cops undercover at a high school into a...

Nick D’Agosto, best known for his roles in Final Destination 5 and the Showtime original series Masters Of Sex, has been cast alongside Andrew Santino, Greta Gerwig, Drew Tarver and Krysta Rodriguez in CBS’ upcoming How I Met Your Mother spinoff How I Met Your Dad. Himym is poised to wrap up its 9-season run at the end of this month, and production on the spinoff will start shortly after.
D’Agosto has been the bright spot in a number of formulaic big studio comedies, showcasing his comedic chops in films such as Fired Up and Extreme Movie. As for his main co-star, Gerwig is an inspired choice, fresh off her role in critical darling Frances Ha. The rest of the cast are more unproven entities, with a handful of TV appearances under their collective belts.

We told you back in April that Bryan Fuller‘s pilot for Syfy, High Moon, had gone into production. Four months later they’re announcing lead casting, so I’m trying to not be concerned about the time that’s elapsed, and instead be pleased about this forward momentum.
I love Bryan Fuller‘s work with Our Kind of Shows (Pushing Daisies, Dead Like Me, Wonderfalls and more), so I’d really love to see this one go forward.

A film that I have been hearing about for the past year is a Chilean exploitation film called Hidden in the Woods. It made such an impact at its North American Premiere at Fantasia last year that Michael Biehn and his daughter felt that they needed to remake the film for American audiences. Artsploitation Films are releasing Hidden in the Woods as their second horror release this year. We have included the trailer and the full press release below as well as the pre-order link from Amazon.

That sound you hear? That’s me, clomping up the stairs to the angry dome. I’ve been spending a lot of time up there in recent weeks. My head is slowly imploding from the sheer WTFness of everything I am hearing. I’m not certain how much more of this I can take.
Let me try to put this concisely: there is a movie about Troll dolls. It is called Trolls. It is not, unfortunately, a sequel to Troll 2. It is being produced by DreamWorks Animation. And it has a writer and director.
The director? Mike Mitchell, who directed Deuce Bigelow: Male Gigolo, Shrek Forever After and (shudder) Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked. His single non-cringe-worthy credit? Sky High, which did not suck. So he’s the guy in charge of Trolls.
The writer? Here we fare a little better. Erica Rivinoja has signed on to write the screenplay.

.The movie about Troll dolls has been shelved and will be forgotten about by everyone for all of eternity.. That.s what I would be saying if the world were not a place where Hell was allowed to exist. But all it takes is a quick glance at newspapers or the local news to see the naivety behind that. And so, the film has taken its biggest leap forward in gaining creative guidance, which is my way of saying that the film has a director and a screenwriter. Hoora.(cough cough). DreamWorks Animation (via Coming Soon) has announced Mike Mitchell signed on as director for Trolls, while Emmy Award-winner Erica Rivinoja will write the screenplay. Not only is this an instance where the writer completely outshines the director, but if it wouldn.t be for the lame duck spoof flick Extreme Movie, even her worst work is of a relative...

Like most movie enthusiasts, I have an extensive collection of movies. Unfortunately for me, I once had it stolen and it was a very traumatic episode. I wish I had been more prepared for the event and to this day, I am still missing some titles. I was caught off guard and ill prepared to replace my collection because I did not have a written list of all the titles in my collection. It is a mistake I have not repeated. So, word to the wise, gather a comprehensive list. Compile a movie archive. Organize it in alphabetical order, by director, by genre, or by movie cover color. However you decide to do it...just do it.
Sure you could do it old school (just set up an excel spreadsheet and enter the basics) or you could really set it up in style with one of the programs I’ve...

Michael Cera in Scott Pilgrim vs. the World
Photo: Universal Pictures The drumbeats are already starting to stir. Over on film industry snarkfest Deadline Hollywood commenters are calling out Michael Cera after the failure last weekend of Scott Pilgrim vs. the World. Gotta love Hollywood. Scott Pilgrim's poor performance comes at sensitive time in the career of Michael Cera. It was only three years ago the 19-year-old wunderkind was flying high after back-to-back mega-hits Superbad and Juno. That was after a four-year run on the cult fave TV show Arrested Development as George-Michael Bluth.

But I'm picking up where the classic sitcom left off.

It's been ten years since the release of the last film based on a "Saturday Night Live" sketch, and a lot has changed since the era of The Ladies' Man. It's not that the show's humor has become less fratty since the 1990s, the decade of Adam Sandler and Chris Farley; it's that the type of fratty-ness has changed, evolving from a beer-bong chugfest into something much sillier and more absurd. But the biggest change between then and now, and the one that makes MacGruber both better than expected and more fleeting, is the rise of the SNL Digital Short. The brief films spearheaded by cast member Andy Samberg have grown from cheaply shot goofs to videos like "I'm On a Boat" that make the most of their budget and create something that looks high-quality but still has the lurking feel of a production thrown together in an afternoon. In other words,...

Jonah Hill (Funny People, Superbad) who has been working on an update of the 80’s television show 21 Jump Street for Sony, has announced that the movie is in negotiations to sign it’s directors. Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, who directed September’s Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs, are potentially signing on, according to the Hollywood Reporter blog.
For the duo, who have also written for shows How I Met Your Mother, created MTV’s Clone High and Extreme Movie, this will mark their first time directing a live-action feature. Fans of Clone High may also remember Lord as the voice of the deranged Principal Scudworth.
The new version of the undercover teenagers high school drama, as described by Hill in Complex Magazine, will be “an R-rated, insane, Bad-Boys-meets-John Hughes-type movie.” With Hill executive producing and probably starring, along with writer Michael Bacall, currently on the upcoming Scott Pilgrim vs.

The hype surrounding Im Kwon-Taek's all important 100th film, the quietly powerful 천녁학 (Beyond the Years), was not what you'd expect, particularly considering all the vicissitudes which marked the project in its pre-production stage, and the meaningful milestone itself. Barely registering a blip at the box office and generally receiving positive reviews which didn't exactly brim with enthusiasm, the minimalist charm of Im's latest made it his most accomplished work - along with 취화선 (Chwihwaseon), which seems to gain gusto with repeated viewings - since 1996's 축제 (Festival), but in this cinematic frenzy led by the Bong Joon-Hos, Park Chan-Wooks and Kim Ji-Woons of the world, uber-veteran Im has strangely been ignored, despite the fact he hasn't made a stinker in ten years. Courtesy of a poster on the Extreme Movie board, who probably scanned some kind of festival guide of sorts, we finally have some details on his 101st film,...

Production Weekly is reporting Jorma Taccone will make his feature directorial debut with MacGruber, a big screen version of SNL’s spoof on the popular 80s television series MacGyver. MacGrbuer has been featured in a number of Digital Shorts, which Tacoone also directed. Will Forte, who confirmed the project was happening last month on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, stars as the title character. Right now the only other confirmed cast member is Kristen Wiig. Taccone, Forte and John Solomon wrote the script. Solomon and Taccone are both writers for SNL and also co-wrote the comedy Extreme Movie. Taccone is also one third of the comedy troupe The Lonely Island, along with Akiva Schaffer and Andy Samberg, He’s also appeared in front of the camera in Hot Rod and Will Ferrell’s Land of the Lost. The MacGruber movie marks the first feature based on an SNL character in nearly ten years.

In a low- to mid-seven-figure deal, Sony Pictures Animation has picked up the rights to "The Familiars," an upcoming children's fantasy book series written by Adam Jay Epstein and Andrew Jacobson.
Sam Raimi and Josh Donen are in negotiations to produce via their Stars Road Entertainment banner. Epstein and Jacobson also will write the script.
The writers pitched the idea to their reps at UTA and H2F Entertainment, who believed -- given the current marketplace that favors having an IP like a comic book or book behind a project -- that going the book route would be better than simply going out with a pitch. The approach also would give the duo an opportunity to make tracks as novelists.
The writers' literary agent, Markus Hoffmann of Regal Literary, submitted a partial manuscript plus a detailed chapter outline for the first book as well as short synopses for the second...

Variety is reporting that Danneel Harris ("Extreme Movie", "Harold Kumar Escape From Guantanamo Bay", "Fired Up") (and not "Halloween"'s Danielle Harris like some websites are reporting) will be joining Leighton Meester, Cam Gigandet, Minka Kelly, Aly Michalka, Matt Lanter and Frances Fisher in the now filming thriller "The Roommate", under the direction of Christian E. Christiansen. Easy mistake, unless they're both starring? The movie will center on Sara, a college student randomly assigned to a freshman dorm with a stranger named Rebecca. They start off as friends but things turn deadly as Rebecca begins to target people in Sara's life. Hot pic inside. Bam. ...

While other websites are reporting (and said to have confirmed) that Halloween's Danielle Harris is taking up residency in Sony Screen Gems' The Roommate, Variety is reporting that it's actually Danneel Harris (Extreme Movie, Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay, Fired Up) that will be joining Leighton Meester, Cam Gigandet, Minka Kelly, Aly Michalka, Matt Lanter and Frances Fisher in the now filming thriller under the direction of Christian E. SNL’s MacGruber, a spoof on the popular 80s television series MacGyver, which started out as a series of Digital shorts is heading to the big screen. A MacGruber movie has been rumored before, but now Will Forte, who plays the misfit character, has confirmed a film is on the way. The SNL vet recently broke the news on NBC’s Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, saying “John Solomon, Jorma Taccone and I just finished writing it. We’re gonna make it in Albuquerque. It’s me and Kirsten Wiig and cast to be determined.” Solomon and Taccone are both writers for SNL and also co-wrote the comedy Extreme Movie. I was invited to The Red Carpet Premiere for Robert Hall’s Laid To Rest on Sat. April 18th at the Laellme Grand Theater in Downtown Los Angeles. Most of the major players made an appearance as well as some surprise guests. (Click here for my review of Laid to Rest.) I had an awesome time. The stars were all very cool, especially Thomas Dekker, who rocked the night with a very cool blood splattered tie. (Told you I liked it Thomas!) “Laid to Rest” by director Robert Hall stars Bobbi Sue Luther (Extreme Movie), Kevin Gage, Lena Headey (Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles), Sean Whalen and Thomas Dekker (A Nightmare on [...]...

Film releases certainly aren't limited to theaters these days -- here's a rundown of titles making their way to you via alternative pathways.
On Demand
Our sister company IFC Films made a splash at this year's Sundance with the announcement of a partnership with the SXSW Film Festival to premiere four of the festival's picks concurrent with their debut in Austin. Joe Swanberg's latest, "Alexander the Last," headlines the group making their on demand debut on March 14, along with Australian comedy "Three Blind Mice," Bulgarian noir "Zift" and SXSW '08 alums "Medicine for Melancholy" and "Paper Covers Rock."
On DVD
It's a sign of the times that a serviceable Tommy Lee Jones thriller can sit alongside the latest from Steven Seagal at your local Blockbuster, but "In the Electric Mist" is far more interesting than the actor's paycheck output of the late '90s, even if it is missing...

Dear Mom & Dad,
Things are great in L.A.! My career is taking off already! Just this week I got hired for something called Extreme Movie, and all I had to do was stand around in my underwear next to a sheep!
Love,
Your daughter
Things can get pretty desperate when your hastily-assembled spoof movie skips its theatrical release and goes straight to DVD, so we understand where the folks at The Weinstein Company's Extreme Movie are coming from. The movie is a collection of sketches centering around teen sex, with Jamie Kennedy, Frankie Muniz, and Michael Cera among the actors and several SNL guys among the writers. It's being unloaded on DVD on Feb. 24, and to promote it, the marketing department is offering Std e-cards.
The idea is that perhaps you've inadvertently put one of your casual sex partners at risk for an Std, and these cheerful e-cards are...

The Dark Knight
I'm so tempted to just begin and end with The Dark Knight. Even stacked against a myriad of films, this sucker would hold up. In this case, Batman picked the perfect time to slide his way onto DVD shelves -- nothing else comes close to the power of Heath Ledger's Joker surrounded by the likes of Bale, Eckhart, Gyllenhaal, and Oldman. I doubt I need to extol the virtues of this film, so I'll just say: Buy It, as a single-disc, double-disc, limited edition, or Blu-ray. Click here for all the details.

Sam Raimi is going Disney. The studio has picked up "The Transplants," an action-adventure pitch from scribes Adam Jay Epstein and Andrew Jacobson for the filmmaker to produce via the Stars Road Entertainment banner he runs with partner Josh Donen.
The parties are keeping a tight lid on the high-concept project, though it is described as a four-quadrant ensemble superhero story with a comedic bent.
Epstein and Jacobson, best known for "Not Another Teen Movie," were planning to execute their idea via a comic book, but Disney exec Kristin Burr was so keen on it that the company pre-emptively picked up "Transplants." The deal is in the mid- to high-six figures.
Stars Road executive Russell Hollander brought the project to the studio.
Last weekend, Raimi was at Comic-Con in San Diego, where he showed off well-received clips from his return-to-horrror film "Drag Me to Hell." Stars Road is one of the entities behind Screen Gems' dramatic thriller "Armored."
Epstein and Jacobson, repped by UTA and H2F Entertainment, most recently wrote the action comedy "Crash Test Dummies" for Barry Josephson at Fox. They also directed and co-wrote the upcoming Dimension release "Extreme Movie," which stars Michael Cera.
The Disney-Raimi pairing is eyebrow-raising: "Transplants" marks the first Disney project for the filmmaker, who is known more for his horror fare and "Spider-Man" movies, not to mention his comedic sensibilities that attract the geek audience. Disney, on the other hand, isn't exactly known for its edge, with fare that plays fairly broad.
Still, a few projects and names pop from the Disney slate, such as the Bruce Willis sci-fi actioner "Surrogates" and the Tim Burton-directed "Alice in Wonderland," which is sure to attract literary hipsters as much as families.

Adam Jay Epstein and Andrew Jacobson, who wrote and directed Dimension's upcoming Parental Guidance Suggested, have set up their second directing vehicle with Bill Todman's Level 1 Entertainment.
Titled Trucker Academy, the comedy revolves around two white-collar professionals who lose their jobs and decide to become long-haul truckers.
Epstein and Jacobson will pen the high-concept screenplay, which is described as in the vein of Stripes and Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby, from their original idea.
Level 1 recently produced the comedy Strange Wilderness, which will be distributed by Paramount Pictures.
Epstein and Jacobson, whose credits include Sony's Not Another Teen Comedy and Fox Atomic's upcoming sports-themed comedy The Comebacks, also are writing 20th Century Fox's Crash Test Dummies for producer Barry Josephson. The duo also are developing a comedy project at the Walt Disney Co.
The pair are repped by UTA and attorney Ken Richman.
