Charity definitely begins at home.

Marriott reluctantly joins his Aunt Maud on a shopping trip, she spots The Hawksworth family in a well known exclusive jewellers, a family that has recently been in receipt of a lot of charity. Aunt Maud smells a rat, and asks Bob to look into it.

A wonderfully original, and somewhat different story, you wonder how many families did indeed gain a living in such a way, it's not a scenario I've ever considered before.

It makes you ponder the whole concept of charity, why would someone like Lady Dumayne offer such help to The Hawksworths, she doesn't strike me as altruistic, could it have been a social duty, or a chance to get one up on her friends?

There are two particularly fine performances here, from two of my favourite actresses of the 60's through to the 90's, Joyce Carey and Fabia Drake, both appeared in The BBC'S wonderful Miss Marple series, the latter also appeared in shows like Morse, such a strong voice and presence.

Worth looking out for Andrew Sachs also, in a few years from now Manuel would be let loose on Torquay's clientele.

8/10.
