A terrific final part.

All of the truths are out, Max gets a bit too big for his boots.

The transformation is complete, we've gone from amusing crime drama to thriller, this last one takes us into the realms of Gangster thriller.

This final part had me glued, we finally get to learn what was the fate of poor Walter. It's been a real surprise package, I was expecting it to good, I hadn't expected it to be this good.

Bonnar and Haddington are both amazing, as they indeed have been from start to finish. The scene the pair share towards the end was the standout scene.

Episode 4

The various truths come out in the final episode.

Max reveals to his brother Jake that his shop has been used to launder money for gangsters.

Angie tells the truth to Jake that she is not the Walter's niece.

Even Sheila murky involvement with Walter is fathomed by Max.

However Max thinks big and heads for a greater fall. He thinks he can take over Roy Lynch's operation. It is not that easy to push over a gangster.

This is a thriller that got darker with more losers than winners.

The best performance came from Bill Paterson with his quiet menace, the way he cut Max down to size was chilling.

Tumbling Down Hill

First let me say that this drama is very well done. Writing, acting, production, all first rate. I would have given it a higher score if it was a story I enjoyed.

If this was another police procedural, detective story, well, for me, that would've been been better. At the beginning of the 4th episode I realized the difference. When we're looking at these events from the police perspective the arc of the story is, typically, one of success.

But stories like this, people with marginal lives getting mixed up in circumstances that sweep them into misery or worse don't have much appeal for me. My wife ate it up, but I had to turn away.
