Veteran British soldier Brett Leonard Makinson, a retired parachute regiment medic, heads to India to overcome his PTSD but is soon tempted into smuggling weed out of the Himalayas to various parts of Europe. Caught and jailed in India, he is tortured until he signs a blank piece of paper for the Indian authorities. They sentence him to 18 years for smuggling a plethora of drugs, including ones he was not smuggling, which was why he was given such a long sentence. The worst part is that his innocent girlfriend is also jailed, and she was only with him for the sight-seeing aspect of his travel. He is released from jail early after serving 3.5 years due to a prisoner exchange with Britain, where he serves two more years in jail in his homeland. Wanting to atone for his past life, he volunteers to travel to Ukraine to help the Ukrainians in the 2022 war that was started when Russia invaded Ukraine.
