Explosive dramatic tensions which leads to a meltdown with characters.
cruise016 May 2020
(4.5 out of 5 stars).

The season finale was an explosive meltdown with the dramatic tension with every character. Elena (Reese Witherspoon) gets worse as a character. As she controls the situation. Her husband is conflicted after what he discovered about her. Her kids all are conflicted with her and each other. While Mia is trying to deal with her daughter Pearl about what she discovered.

Love the drama. The script and direction kept the drama on the edge with the characters. It was emotional. It was hard to watch. Sure, there are frustrating moments. Especially during the court scene.

The cast did great. It was one of those dramas that ended too quick in one episode. The ending is well delivered and powerful.

Well Wrought But Polarizing
schoolemaildbn28 April 2020
Though the finale is satisfying in the sense that almost all of the loose threads come to their conclusion, it really amounts to who you agree with in the end. If you identified with Elena, you're going to be frustrated that she was so demonized, if you identified with Mia you're going to be frustrated that her situation came full circle. In the end, none of the characters received justice, which may be accurate in real life but is somewhat unsatisfying from a narrative point of view. I do think this is a good series; the polarization of who the protagonist truly is fuels the drama, but it felt like once your mind was made up there was very little middle ground. In truth, both women were two sides of the same coin. All this being said, everything was immaculately acted and produced and the reveal was a surprise. A solid ending for a solid series, with the polarization being a feature and a deterrent.

Would give this ep 8.5/10

Warning: Spoilers
This is not going to be a super deep review. To be honest, this is actually a review of the entire season. 1. Holy cow, did casting do a fantastic job with the Richardson family! All 4 kids look like the spawn of Reese and Joshua and very, very much like siblings. 2. I love Kerry Washington but her expressions as Mia were distracting. She always looked like she smelled something bad. 3. I thought the kids did an amazing job in this ep. 4. Love me some Joshua Jackson; always reliable, always entertaining. 5. I want a season 2 so I can find out what happened to everyone. How was the Wright reunion? Does Izzy come home? What happens with Mayling, Bebe, and the McCulloughs? How do the Richardson kids end up? Does Elena go to jail (or a mental institution)? Does Bill leave Elena? Since the secret's out and MiA can openly sell her art, do she and Pearl get a real home? Does Lexi end up at Yale?

Honestly, I didn't see any of the mothers as protagonists or antagonists; there were good and bad things about all of them. Mia, Elena, Linda, and Bebe all had their pluses and minuses. For me, the acting that stood out was from the kids (Richardsons and Pearl), always JJ, and Bebe (Lu Huang). The story is a racially and socioeconomic ally-charged soap opera.

Wow!

Completely shocked by the ending! But it was nice to see that everyone finally saw Elena for what she really was. The only thing I would have done was left her behind.

Necessary
This show is absolutely amazing in every aspect. Reese and Kerry gave us real acting and the show makes us reflect about motherhood, choices and racism. It was really beautiful and artistic. Probably the best show I've watched this year.

Better ending than the book
liljoey9018 May 2020
I for one enjoyed the book a lot, but was always a little underwhelmed with the ending. I thought the ending in the show was much better IMO. More dramatic and emotional. Overall, there were things in the series I liked more in the book, but I thought they did an excellent job with the ending IMO.

Better ending than the book

Loved this ending so much. It was more satisfying than the book. The Elena/Mia final confrontation was so good and rewarding. Also the "little fires" explanation. The rest of the episodes were meh.

Find a Way

Pequenos Incêndios Por Toda Parte (2020)

Finished Series #27

Season 1

Episode Eight - Find a Way

A minute of silence for the Asian baby who will be kidnapped for the rest of his life, the Asian learned it well from her mentor.

What wonderful performances from everyone involved, which was that scream between Elena and Lexie, and also the part where she tells Izzy that she never wanted to have her is too tense.

Unfortunately (or fortunately for people who have a variety of good things to watch) the year this miniseries was released there were many, many wonderful series being released, it was practically impossible for anyone from that series to win an Emmy.

While Izzy's actress looks a lot like Brazilian actress Mel Maia, the actress who played Lexie is a mix of Sasha Pieterse (in the first season of Pretty Little Liars) and Sydney Sweeney.

Izzy was the person in this series who did the least harm to anyone and yet, she was the one who had the most tragic ending.

Even though Mia had no obligation to take care of her, at least a goodbye was the least, she knew how the girl idolized her.

Who would have thought that the most "strange" daughter would be the least "disturbed" in the family.

Izzy is the best character in the series, even though I didn't like her lines at various times, she is the one who made the least mistakes.

Elena and Mia are two great villains, just because Elena is more villainous doesn't erase all the bad things Mia did.

The "plot twist" thing, I think it was the first time the "plot twist" (who had burned down the house) didn't surprise me and yet I loved it, because the whole trajectory was wonderful, so much so that it had been a long time since I couldn't memorize the names of most of the characters in a miniseries and with this one I did it.

I hope to see more series and films from these children, they are all very talented.

Bad Ending
ladybird_mt6 November 2020
I had hoped that the ending would be worth watching, but it wasn't. It felt unfinished, I think there should've been more to the story.

The book has a better ending

I liked the book's ending with Elena willing to look for Izzy. But the series just messes it all around truly.

I'm a mother & I mess up too, so season 2?
woowoo2222 April 2020
I really enjoyed this series. The actors all did exceptional work. I related to all the mother's at different times. We all need to stop striving for perfection, it's just so unattainable. What I really got out of this series is that we need to stop judging other mother's, other families, and most importantly other women. I'm guilty of it at times, trust me. I've up as a parent, a daughter, as a woman and as a human. Especially as women, we need to support, encourage, listen and cry with other women. That's how we get better. However, the ending was so emotional & amazing but so many questions left unanswered. Please please give us a season 2 or I'm going to have to read the book. Which I now have plenty of time to do. I did go into my 22 yr old daughters room and tell her that I would love to rewatch it with her. She said yes. Great job to everyone but the kids did an A++++ job.

Yeah, it's ruined.

Warning: Spoilers
I think I've had it with this show, when that guy broke up with his girlfriend, because she didn't respect his « blackness » hard enough, an episode earlier. Then when a voice-over talks about « progressiveness », and a lawyer makes his plea based on how it is IMPORTANT, vital even, it is to raise an adopted kid in the idea of retreat, into a certain nationalist identity. Made me want to wake up from this nightmare series. The final scene, with the same old rich is bad, poor is good message. Ceased to plummet this joke of a season, and hopefully, series finale.

This is my first time writing a review on this app. That ending was so bad that it enticed me to write about it. Please. Save an hour of your life and do literally anything else. I still can't believe how awful it was. I'm not joking. Horrendous.

Worst. Ending. Ever.

I was very disappointed with how this ended. So many things left unresolved. I would hope for a season two or something to wrap this up so it ends by making sense and whatnot.
