Great documentary on an extraordinary individual

A documentary on England cricketer Ian Botham, one of the greatest all-rounders the game has seen. While covering his entire playing career and beyond the documentary focuses on the amazing Ashes series of 1981 and how that changed his life.

Ian Botham's feats as a cricketer are legendary. At the forefront of that legend is the 1981 Ashes series. Botham turned a series that England seemed destined to lose badly into a triumph. This documentary shows in great detail Botham's career to that point, the depths his career had sunk in the Tests leading up to the Headingley Test and what happened from there.

Well told, with some interesting, insightful interviews. In addition to Botham, his wife and kids we hear from such luminaries as Viv Richards, Joel Garner, Mick Jagger, Elton John, Stephen Fry, David Gower, Bob Willis, John Major and Mike Brearley. It would have been good to hear an Australian perspective as Botham seemed to reserve his best performances for them. Sadly, this did not happen.

The documentary also details his post-playing life, especially his walks for leukemia research.
