"Rules are what makes us better"(Moss) "Not today!" (Jack)

I think this episode is one of the best I have seen of the whole series.

Not only is there great action, which is true of most "24" episodes, but there is great tension and suspense that is sustained for almost the entire 1 hour episode.

I think they have assembled a great cast so far this season. Jeneane Garofalo is a great edition to the cast this season. You have your usually group of intense, type A types that are typical in law enforcement - but her character, Janis, is a quirky, awkward sort that adds good depth to the cast.

In addition to some great dialogue in this episode - like the one above in the title line - there was another classic line where the President is questioning whether she can trust Jack. She says something to the effect "How can I know to trust you - how can I know for sure where you're loyalties lie"? To which Jack answers confidently "Ask around". Maybe he's on his way to great one liners - a la Ckint Eastwood.

There is a good unexpected setback at the end when Henry Taylor doesn't escape unscathed from the rescue attempt. I think that's what makes "24" so interesting - that the unexpected happens.

Talk about intense...

Warning: Spoilers
Jack finally meets President Taylor and during their little meeting Bill informs her of agents of Gen. Manjuma that are working undercover as government officials and secret service agents. During this Presdient Taylor is told about her husband's disappearance, and handed a cell phone where Dubaku gives her an ultimatum to stop her attack in Sangala or her husband will die. They find out his abductor and find more information bout him including his family, wife and a baby( male). Renee calls Moss, of course he's reactions are nothing but surprise and rage but he agrees to keep things secret and meet up with Bauer and Renee. They agree to try to obtain the agent but not to harm his fairly, which Jack suggest but Moss digresses. Strongly. Renee goes to the agent't house where she holds his wife and son hostage until Jack finds him and has him answer his questions. This is a repeat of the Taylor torture we see earlier, but with an entirely different situation. Renee wants to act like Bauer but here she fails again and can't deal with the insanity of doing this to a woman and her child. Jack finds the agent and gets the answer he has been looking for, but in an act of self defense, Jack kills him. But they still have Taylor's location. Jack and Renee go to the location and act immediately, things go well till Taylor is shot in the chest by accident. He is taken to the hospital. Dubaku's girlfriend's sister finds out the truth about him and warns him never to go near her sister again.

There's much to love about this hour. The situations and the conflicts are more graphic and intense and the emotionality is on higher level as this deals further with the emotion of regret.

The action sequences are well plotted, and well handled.

The acting is so top notch.

I also loved the musical score here, very Bourne/John Powell like here.

8/10.

Best so far.

Definitely this episode is the best since season 7 started. It had me on the edge of the seat the entire time. The first 14 minutes just flew by as the phone call President Taylor received was one of the most dramatic moments in the entire series. After that, it really keeps you in suspense. One character in particular faces a moral dilemma after realizing what must be done in order to save another person. And this is performed in a fantastic way.

This season is proving to be a fine one. Far is the sixth, with its non-original plots. Maybe season 7 will reach the magnificence of the second, but it's too soon to tell.

In the meantime, let's hope it goes on like this.

One Of The Strongest Episodes Ever!

Warning: Spoilers
Season 7 keep us at the edge of their seats with this episode. Another amazing episode of the season and one of the best of the entire series.

Jack and Renee must cross some lines in order to save The First Gentelman before Dubaku continues blackmail President Taylor and risking the security of the country. But just in the end Henry Taylor is shot, leaving Jack desperately and trying to save him...

I loved this one so much. It could be easily the best episode of the season yet. Nearby the third installment. Kiefer Sutherland always performs perfect Jack Bauer character but in this episode is specially amazing. I was at the edge of my seat when he was chasing Vossler and fighting against him until kill him. Also Annie Werschling made another superb performance. Also the end of this episode is the best cliffhanger of the show so far!.

One of the best episode of the whole series and easily the best of the season yet!.

Collateral Damage
Hitchcoc2 July 2019
Lots goes on here that is extremely harsh. Every bad guy has a single weakness. It is a family member that could be killed if they don't follow orders. That goes for the good guys as well. There is an ugly scene as the wife of a nasty character faces a gun, being used to get her husband to reveal a secret hiding place. The President's husband is being held hostage and this tightens up the time frame. A gripping episode.
