Interesting
jamesjpherman22 February 2021
I understand why a lot of viewers are turning off this show and maybe I'm looking too deeply into it as I've invested a lot in it. Odin is vulnerable for the second time since the suicide of Donar. Technical Boy is too and we can see his arrogance is a façade for his lack of self belief. The Jinn is still missing and Salim is grieving his loss. And Laura is actually displaying some respect for the (as yet still) dead Sweeney. It may be yet another filler episode but I think (and I hope) that this leads to decent finale by the end of the season and the production as a whole. Only time will tell.

Best of Season?
Gislef23 February 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I can kinda buy that folks thinks not much is happening. But...

'AG' (and a lot of shows these days ) runs on a seasonal arc. It's a season of storytelling, if not a series. So will the Wednesday/Demeter thing "pay off"? We should probably wait until the end of the season and find out. That's the problem with seasonal arcs: you can only tell if they pay off at the end of the season.

For "Conscience", we had another great performance by McShane. We had Whittle finally getting to cut loose with the painting and jamming and what not. Which beats his usual semi-morose standing around and letting people and events push him around. If nothing else, season 3 has given Whittle more to do.

We didn't get a lot of Laura and Salim, but the relatively little bit we did get was fairly amusing as they "road trip" to kill Wednesday... and run into the new World. Or he runs into them. Trejo as World is also good: I don't think Glover could have pulled off the sympathetic (or faux-sympathetic) conversation with Tech Boy.

And Sam is back. Yes, I've read the novel and have a vague idea of what's going on with Lakeside. But I'm still curious to see what's going on with it in the show.

And Hank. Credit to Nabeeel Al Khafif, who gives a relatively minor part a lot of charm and depth. He could just play an orderly jerk to Wednesday and Demeter. But he shows Hank as a lovelorn and humorous character in a few brief scenes. I'll miss him, if he's gone for good.

Ditto for Denis O'Hare as Tyr. If nothing else it has been interesting seeing Demeter and Tyr dealing with Wednesday as peers. Usually he's conning someone or another. Or playing the war lord. It's been nice to get a bit of... character development with him.

Overall, I thought "Conscience" was best of season. It didn't have a lot of "big" moments. But I'm willing to give the production staff a little more rope and see if they hang themselves, or the show.

But that's just my opinion, I could be wrong. What do you think?

Shadow Moon needs a professional opinion on which paint color to use.
marckline000-6724 February 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Lets see , something about sexual situations , where ? Beating the walls of the motel , could have been an earthquake . Back to the episode the beginning was cool with a young Odin . Mr World is now being played by Machete dude , Crispin must be on hiatus. The best part was when Wednesday aka Odin told his story on his love of his life , then after 250 years she becomes confetti and blows away in the garden, Derek is the guy who steals women's bra's , he is the waiter , must get out of Lakeside more. Shadow Moon needs to visit Sherwin Williams and ask a pro on which color to choose in his apartment , his taste is terrible , should have left the original blue alone. Laura Moon was directing the episode and finds out that Wednesday is Shadow's dad , not shocked at all , roll the camera.

Am I just dumb?
adampiperca23 February 2021
Warning: Spoilers
What was the point of the last 3 episodes / Wednesdays storyline primarily if Demeter just disappears at the end of this episode? Like 3 episodes spent trying to recruit her for her to just disappear?

I would understand how snigificant it would be if we grew too know the character but she barely had a role so the moment was unempactful.

Like I just sat confused like, why did I waste 3 hours watching these episodes for something that felt unimpactful.

Loss and regret
pauleskridge12 March 2024
Eight stars. Creating the Odin-Demeter-Tyr love triangle is weird, from a mythological standpoint. But what the h3ll, why not? The present-day Wednesday/Demeter story absolutely sings, due to the splendid performances of McShane and Danner. And McShane delivers in a way that gives us the idea that Wednesday isn't just a con-man. His loss and regret are as real as his manipulations. The end scene reaches real heartbreak. The Laura revenge angle continues to be the worst thing going. I've read the book, so I get where this is going, but revenge is a terrible waste of a resurrection. At least in any Universe I'm part of. She is travelling with Salim, though. And that gives us more of the one really great human character that the show amped up. Oooo! Danny Trejo! A Mr. World who's always bad news, and who always dies badly! What a great bit of casting. Sam's finally back. In the book, that was a major plot-turn. But here it seems like throw-away sop, rather than a meaningful development. 12 March 2024.

The ending of this ep made the last 3eps pointless
twofly-9297822 February 2021
Warning: Spoilers
So Demeter technically kills herself, which has made the last 3 episodes absolutely pointless in terms of getting Demeter out of the mental ward.... So why waste 3 episodes of time on something that was completely unusable for Wednesday's agenda.

Yet another bore of an episode
thefendiprint21 February 2021
Season 3 has been probably the weakest season to date, with most of the season so far feeling very slow, boring and ultimately not that entertaining, and this episode is no different. If anything, this episode is even more of a filler than previous episodes. Nothing is really happening here, except for some minor romantic storylines that I have zero interest in. Could also be that 10 episodes a season is too many, 8 (like with S1) would probably speed up the plot a little better. But overall, this show has been going downhill since S2 and I'm losing interest with every new episode.

Filler on top of filler
magnum-ajt5 April 2021
Seriously I would've rather they cut the number of episodes down to 4 for this season rather than just waste everyone's time on useless scenes and dialogue.

Not even Trejo can save this
deadleeserious19 April 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Season 2 was pretty much entirely filler, but it did at least have some occasionally interesting moments, mostly Mad Sweeney's scenes, and anything with Orlando Jones's brilliant Mr. Nancy performance.

Season 3 on the other hand? Absolutely dead in the water. This is episode 6 and nothing has happened. The story has been circling around the same topic for 2.5 seasons now, all talk, no action, and I don't mean action scenes, I mean, nothing of consequence happens in the story anymore. It's just a bunch of random plotlines, none of which really matter. This show has ignored 2 cliff-hanger season endings already, so it's already set us up for anti-climax.

The Shadow Play scene does have a Gaiman-esque feel to it, but it's just another diversion in a story that's already gone entirely off the rails. The attempts to make me teary eyed over Demeter really failed. The whole storyline was really dragged out, and even McShane couldn't save some of the terrible dialogue and direction on show here.

The rest of the episode is awful. Shadow painting and dancing is a rom-com cringe trope of the worst kind, and surely no one cares about his romantic life this far into the narrative? Ricky Whittle is not a particularly convincing actor, and Shadow is a very flat character, getting less interesting by the episode, especially now he's not playing off against Wednesday or Sweeney which made for great interactions in season 1.

Technical Boy's story is eh at best. Seeing Mr. World turn into Danny Trejo for a cameo was fun, if rather immersion breaking.

We're near the end of the series and we've been supposedly building to a war since mid Season 1, but any and all tension or anticipation for the story has been killed by the constant wheel spinning and uninteresting diversions.

American Gods is a great example of what happens when you take a great author and try to milk his work into your network's cash cow. This is some of the most boring crap I've ever seen.
