A Mess of a Film
hwyrovr6 January 2009
I watch hundreds of films a year and this one made the worst of the year award (ahead of Juarez, Mexico) at the last minute. Virtually impossible to follow, the camera work is horrible, the director has no concept of pacing, and Michael Madsen looked as lost as the audience. The punk music soundtrack was all right, but pushed at too high a volume level. The concept of the plot is intriguing, but everyone missed the mark in bringing it to film. The morality aspects of the film were disjointed and difficult to follow. Attempting to be "hard-core" with the killer of the young men the director missed the mark with a total lack of blood spatter except on the killer. The apartment was pristine (probably borrowed from a buddy) with no blood on carpet, furniture or walls. If you're going to show a brutal murder you should be prepared to SHOW the results of a brutal murder.

Synopsis
defucter28 February 2008
Michael Madsen (RESERVOIR DOGS) stars in this harrowing story of two killers: one a serial killer on the prowl and the other a husband who accidentally kills his wife.

This chilling look into the tormented minds of two killers from completely different walks of life explores the thin line between good and evil. In a hallucinatory adventure of the senses, a crazed murderer wanders the streets on a remorseless hunt for victims. Meanwhile, a distraught family man (Michael Madsen, Sin City, Reservoir Dogs) who accidentally kills his wife desperately searches for redemption. Written and directed by acclaimed hardcore/punk music video director Darren Doane, EYES FRONT breaks new ground with its cutting-edge imagery, fueled by a pulse-pounding alternative music soundtrack.

Low budget and bad, made for TV movies got more money than this

(2007) Eyes Front ART HOUSE HORROR

A no plot movie that is co-written, produced and directed by Darren Doane who happens to be a prolific hardcore/punk music video of such bands as 'Blink 182' and 'Shinedown'. Here he makes a straight to rental debut about two different kinds of serial killers which one is seeking for answers he's played by Michael Madsen, while the other isn't( from what I gather from reading the back). It's one of those movies where the person who made the movie is the only person who'd understand it who is Darren Doane. Which there are times I too enjoy contradicting and convolute my own movie reviews on purpose so that I would be the only person who'd understand it just so it can help me solidify my key points whenever I would rewrite them again since I watch movies without a pad and paper and rely only on what I remember. But regardless, this movie is a reminiscent of many music videos since it starts off with the Madsen character asking a stupid rhetorical question like "why is there a god"!, and "why is there evil!" after he kills his wife for it's just one babble after the next. The other killer kills one person and then whacks two more with a hammer then he goes and talks to himself like a mental reject. That is probably the only excitement throughout the entire film which the director depends on many flashbacks some more incoherent than others. And because the budget is low, it really shows as he fills the movie with pointless hard punk music scores for people who have heard of him would probably understand this movie more than frequent movie watchers. Footnote: According to imdb.com, this also happens to be Christian Madsen's movie debut who's the son of Michael Madsen. Bomb.

WTF is up with this movie???
doublebky3 March 2008
Warning: Spoilers
This movie looks like it was shot on NO BUDGET and with very little idea of what entertainment is. I usually look forward to seeing Independent Films because they tend to go places big budget films do not dare go. This one goes nowhere...FAST! Movie starts out promising as you see a young man looking into a camera and you can tell he knows something that the viewers do not yet know. Here's where it gets REALLY GOOD (note the sarcasm here). For the next 15 min or so, you hear Micheal Madson talk about if there is good or evil or if there is a God while the most BORING images ever pass by your screen (including laundry being done, staring off aimlessly, looking in a trunk for NO REASON, etc. etc.) When something FINALLY happens, the cameraman appears to be having a conniption fit because the camera goes ALL over the place. The "killer' then looks around a bunch to waste more time, including moments where they just show him bloodstained staring off aimlessly. The movie finally picks up after about 45 min or so and then...WHAM! it's over. 1hr.10 min long of which 12 minutes is entertaining.

I give it a 2 simply because I made it through the whole thing without turning it off. If you wanna see Micheal Madson (you can tell he REALLY like s this movie, he looks about as stiff as starched underwear in this film.) talk aimlessly about good and evil, then this is your movie...otherwise, do not waste your time.

Pretty good indie film.
Panterken1 March 2008
Warning: Spoilers
'Eyes Front' is not mind-blowing in any way but compared to the gross of indie films it's pretty good. The story is not that interesting and the ideas put forward about evil are not really eye-opening or mind-nourishing. What makes this movie worth a look is the good acting by Christopher Stapleton, and some nice executed scenes, especially in the first twenty minutes. I feel the film loses it's edge after that and the conclusion isn't really worth the wait.

Madsen is a bit wasted and you can feel he's uncomfortable in his role. Suffise it to say he is not memorable.
