Puppet show x Anime
abaihaqi-7488218 August 2021
I like this animation, it mix tradition puppet show with paper mario and anime in one, but i sorry for this watch, it has mixed bags like dialogue was not jokes at all but there jokes from other media (Film, games, etc.) I feel on YouTube has mislabeled thumbnail i guess, furthermore, i like this style, but think people are anime, yeah, it's anime paper mario style. If you want, watch on vrv or YouTube.

It's a real A G-D show. Well written, not animated... well kinda.
grantlauzon31 December 2021
I think this show was review bombed.

The characters are cardboard cutouts... physically, but they're entertaining well written and play very well off each other. "The woman steps forward and unsheathes a Real Ass God Damn Sword". It feels like a bunch of memes or inside jokes were crafted (not grafted) into (not onto) an indie show.

The music is fantastic.

The characters are a collection of still images that squashed an stretched to give movement. Technically they aren't really animated, but they're very well animated in how they aren't.

Great voice acting, quick witted
wittlessbystander4 February 2020
The voice acting in the show is stellar! The jokes.... hit or miss really... but they're pretty consistent so I found myself laughing a bit. The character designs are also really cool despite the show's initial animation budget of five dollars. Having them narrate actions was an odd choice for me, it's like listening to an audiobook with a visual representation but that seems like a nitpick. The characters are almost all tropes you see in other media which can get a little tiring since the show is flooded with them. The saving grace for that is the quick humor and excellent voice work. If you enjoy the work of Brendan Blaber you'll probably enjoy this but if you enjoy his work I'm sure you've probably already watched it.

The limits placed on this production underscore a refreshing, humors and surprisingly heartfelt adventure.
brankoburcksen22 November 2019
Everyone will first notice the limited animation, which determines right out the gate who this series appeals to, and I happen to be one of those. I never watched the table top RPG streams the creator played with his friends that it is based on, but I enjoyed the humorous take downs of popular video games and anime on his YouTube channel done in same style. He takes that to the next level with his first full fledge series.

The voice acting carries a lot of the humorous and dramatic weight of the show to great effect. The limited movement along with the exaggerated poses and facial expressions at key moments sell what happens, but it is really the performances that bring any investment to the action, and the cast does a fantastic job of pulling that off.

It took me a little while to get into the story, but it surprised me that there was genuine heart behind the proceedings instead of nonstop antics. Apart from Molly as the grounded, audience POV, everyone is some manner of oddball meant to befuddle her. However, they begin peel back layers as unexpected dynamics develop between the various factions vying for the amulet. Those surprise insights and heartfelt moments keep me hooked to happens next.

Give Epithet Erased a watch for its unexpected style and more three dimensional characters than their appearance would have you believe.

One Star by Piph0
Piph021 January 2022
Twas a night like any other night in 2019. While mindlessly scrolling through media, something rare happened. Something caught my attention -- and kept it. A show with fun and vibrant characters, charming and beautiful art and design, and an emotional core likened to a star. You can really tell when creative control is one strong, passionate, and clear voice that isn't diced up by a corporate boardroom. Even after these harsh years, loyal fans came back and show their undying support.

Now it is my turn. My voice out of hundreds singing a symphony, a ballet, an ode to Epithet Erased.

One Star, my friend. One Star.

I remember watching the first episode and I like what the hell is this animation, but still I stuck with it... been enjoying it so far, the animation isn't all great but the storyline is so amazing that whatever opinion I had on the animation didn't even matter. I advice everyone to watch this, its great

Viewer Beware
csthefirst21 January 2022
This show utilises a limited budget with both puppet style 2d animation and top down tabletop roleplay-esque icons in a manner that is both charming and engaging, and couples this with an excellent sense of improv-style humour to make a truly unique show unlike anything you have seen before. This frightens me. I do not like change. I want to see Marvel make their 27th film about a superhero who must grow into their role to defeat a bad guy who has the exact same powerset as them. Must avoid.

Super Cute and Unique Show- Must Watch!
crazycakesforever5 January 2020
When I first started watching this show, I was thrown off by the lack of "animation" that you would usually see in TV productions. However, as I got past the first two episodes I started to enjoy Epithet Erased for it's lovable characters and unique storyline.

The show is reminiscent of a DND campaign (as it was based off of one). Characters sometimes narrate their actions in third person. The first part of the story focuses on a girl named Molly Blyndeff, whose bumbling father left her in a museum overnight. Unfortunately for her, two conflicting heists happen to be occurring at the same time. Both the protagonists and antagonists caught my love for their quirks and personalities.

It's hard to find a comparison for this show, as it feels one-of-a-kind. The art style, humor, and storyline are intriguing and will definitely make you laugh. If you have some time, I definitely recommend you watch this series and support the creators!

Great but not really

Episodes seem rushed, not much animation as there is illustration, episode names don't seem that original. It is kinda great but it has issues.

A revolutionary take on modern animation
danielfay-5676521 January 2022
While I won't personally claim to be anywhere near a professional critic I will say that this is by far one of the best modern animated shows I've ever seen. The limited animation is by no means a hinderance to the show, in fact it's an aid. Aside from the animation style this show also holds an incredible storyline full to the brim with hilarious comedy and appealing characters. 1/10 I would recomend.

Perhaps one of the best animated web shows yet.
owenmyatt19 December 2019
I've watched several animated series, either through Newgrounds or YouTube, and the results have been varying in terms of quality and production ease. Generally speaking, the quality of the content and the hiatuses between episodes were intertwined, with well animated shows and fan-projects having years between even Episode 1 and Episode 2, making them ultimately forgettable when competing with network shows that simply have the resources to produce more content far quicker.

And then came along Epithet Erased; a remarkably well-written show with regular weekly installments so far. Some may scoff at the animation style(not the art style, though, which is pleasant to the eyes and makes every character distinct). However, through expressive designs, expertly choreographed direction, and solid effects, the computer puppetering of models goes from being one of the shows most glaring shortcomings into one of its most unexpected strengths. Even when the perspective is shifted to a bird's eye view of just the character's profiles, it manages to be expressive and well-timed.

The narrative of the show is also rather compelling, especially in regards to the cast of characters, who's expressive designs, superb vocal direction, and lovable writing makes each of them a wonderful surprise. The biggest downside to the plot, however, is that it lacks a clear focus for the overall narrative. It has a power-stealing Maguffin for the cast to chase, but after the first few episodes, it becomes more of an afterthought. While none of the roughly half-hour episodes feel like a drag, there seems to be little plot progression after the first arc. Only 6 episodes are available on VRV, and even less so on YouTube, so this might be a temporary problem, but it does have me slightly concerned about the possible longevity of the show if it cannot find a clear narrative to follow.

None the less, the shear fun of the show ranks it above most web shows, and certainly above most web shows of purely original content. Thus, I give it a solid 9/10.

good, but the animation is so bad that it doesn't even exist
rogriosantos26 March 2023
The series is good,, but the animation is really bad the characters are fun and have good voice acting, the story is cool, the characters are full of personality,, But I don't really know what to say about this series.

Good things from the series:

good voice acting

silly story

good characters

beautiful drawing style

Bad Thiago about the series:

has no animation

some ((some)) characters are UNBEARABLE

some jokes are very unfunny.

But i think the series deserves a 7.5/10

that's all i have to say.

If you want to watch,, watch,, there are all 7 episodes on youtube.

((my favorite character is molly :) ))

One of the best online series
lukeanegus4 May 2020
While the animation might be simplistic at times, this series is still incredible. The writing is smart and funny, I love all the characters, my only problem is that some characters (like Howie) were underutilized but at least there might be a second season (I hope)

Epithet Erased is incredibly charming, funny, sweet, and energetic. It's got a unique style and incredible soundtrack with excellent voice acting. It's not perfect but I wouldn't want it to be perfect. My favorite character is Ramsey.

I refuse to give Epithet Erased a 1-Star Review
ejharington21 January 2022
It simply does not deserve it. To be clear, the creator requested fans to leave their honest praise of the program with a 1-star rating in protest to a sudden influx in bomb reviews that came long after the end of the program. While it is an absolute crime that these ratings occurred, and I sincerely hope that IMDB might eventually review and remove what is clearly an attempt to troll, I simply will not give a rating that is undeserved.

Some people might criticize Epithet Erased for its minimalist style. Those people, in my opinion, simply fail to understand that it IS a style, deliberately chosen, and with meaning behind it. Ultimately, it is a story about a game, and so it is presented in the style of that game, with tokens on a board, damage numbers being shown, and "players" narrating their characters. Moreover, in embracing a minimal style, Epithet not only finds a way to still convey all that it needs to, but also does something that it could not otherwise - make use of a dramatic shift in style to highlight and underscore certain key moments in the story, making them more impactful than they would otherwise be. This isn't a "budget" show. It's a show that demonstrates that, sometimes, less is more.

Beyond that, it is a clever and imaginative take on numerous tropes in animated media, and a loving satire that at times tips over the line to wholeheartedly embrace the style it lampoons. And, on a deeper level, it has a genuinely interesting and engaging story, told through excellent voice acting and use of tonal cues. Virtually every character feels genuine and relatable, and the both the jokes and the serious emotional moments never fail to hit their mark. Character motivations seem believable, and conflicts not forced, but the natural result of the cast being brought together. Despite a fantastical setting, Epithet's story and characters feel more believable than most popular media today.

Not what I expected
nomnomfreshmin21 January 2022
Epithet Erased is barely animated, passably written, and only available on YouTube and VRV(whatever that is). By all accounts, you would think it to be just an average piece of media to enjoy then forget... however. Since viewing this show I cannot think of anything else.

At first I simply found myself quoting some of the more memorable jokes. Impressions of the protagonists and antagonists followed shorty thereafter. I re-watched once, then twice, now daily. I believe myself to be obsessed. I struggle to feed myself as I am too busy looking at the fantastic character design. Sleep eludes me as I spend hours in bed creating Epithet OCs. In my waking hours, I hear the expert delivery of the many talented voice actors echo in my mind. I can no long work and my funds have begun to run dry after kickstarting Prison of Plastic, the record breaking audiobook that will be the canonical continuation of the series. My wife and kids have been gone for a week. The rest of my family worries as well. They do not understand that the limited animation was due not only to budget constraints but to make it feel more like the TableTop Role Playing Game it was based on.

They are coming for me. I may not have much time. I may never escape this madness I have fallen into, but you can still avoid it. Please use caution if you attempt to experience this expertly crafted, wholly original and unique world. The witty dialogue is a slippery slope into deep, complicated characters with well-thought-out motivations and personalities.

I am out of time. Tell my wife and kids that I'm sorry and I loved them. Send them my Percy body pillow.

A wonderful show!
jeckparadox23 January 2022
I adore the characters, the music, and the simple but effective story. It won me over almost immediately, despite the unique paper-doll style animation. Obviously a lot of love went into this project.

(The 1/10 is for a meme, obviously this show is amazing.)

Epithet Erased poisoned our water supply, burned our crops, and delivered a plague onto our houses!

I mean, it was pretty good, but Zora isn't real and can't top me so it only gets one star.

THE BEST.
milalyalai22 January 2022
OHMYGOD I could spend hours nonstop talking about this show!!! I have spent money funding this project and id do it again without a second thought. Although people complain about the simple animation, id like to say that the imagery takes on more of a visual novel role, which fits a little into the DnD-like aspect of it, especially the views of the characters overhead. Its a direct reference to their original source! Although majorly different from the original Campaign, this show has proven itself to one of the best things ive ever laid my eyes upon. The first time I watched it, it was late at night and I was just about to go to sleep, then I realized I heard one of my friends talk about this show and thought one episode wouldnt hurt. I finished it that night , and proceeded to rewatch it 8 times in the spam of 2 months. This show will drive you insane in the best way possible and I am SO excited for new content!!!! If Jello doesn't include Jericho or Ryatt I will write a hate letter tho. (jk...unless?) BUT YEAH YOU SHOULD GIVE THIS A WATCH I PROMISE YA YOU WONT REGRET IT!!!!!!!

One of my favorite shows, absolutely brimming with charm.
dmcrtj21 January 2022
I'll be forever impressed with what Epithet Erased manages to accomplish on it's small budget. Despite having limited animation it's writing, art, music and voice acting are all absolutely stellar in a way that more than makes up for it. As a creative myself I find it extremely inspiring. Highly recommend giving this one a shot.

Great show!
smythegr21 January 2022
Epithet Erased is an awesome show that everyone can benefit from watching from. A lot of people complain about the animation but I don't think that's the biggest aspect of the show; it's not what the show or any show should be about. It relies on its character and humor more and those aspects quite honesty work so well for me! 10/10.
