I've Never Cared for the Chief

Even though Irving Irving seems solid on the outside, he seems to be constantly in bed with figures who play the system. He stomps around and his legions seem to fear him. But when one gets right down to it, he is a political creature and embraces power. I get a little tired of people coming to him and his demands to be "in the loop." There is a recording that is going to be big trouble shortly as Barrel could have circumvented the problem.

Good episode that develops the story

There is a minor revelation introduced in this episode that provides more backstory on a key character, but you have to care about their political career for it to have much impact.

I realise that I prattle on like a sad, fanboy-nerd about HBO's 'The Wire', but the mayoral election in 'Bosch' is nowhere near as compelling as the Baltimore counterpart and this unfortunate comparison has hindered my engagement with this plot line. Likewise there is a funeral wake portrayed in this episode that, although well made, feels like a very pale imitation of the many brilliant scenes at Kavanaugh's.

The police procedural scenes are a mixed bag of slow-burn information, with the Kent murder investigation still quite interesting and the Avil story plodding along with more exposition dialogue exchanges.

All actors are on good form with Troy Evans having some good screen time.
