Emma Heming Willis has shared that “it’s hard to know” if her husband, action star Bruce Willis, is aware of his frontotemporal dementia diagnosis.
“Dementia is hard,” Heming Willis said on “Today” as part of the first TV interview she has given since her husband’s diagnosis. “It’s hard on the person diagnosed, it’s also hard on the family. And that is no different for Bruce, or myself, or our girls. When they say this is a family disease, it really is.”
Heming Willis went on to say the diagnosis has been “the blessing and the curse,” adding that their family now has a better understanding of what Bruce Willis is going through. “It doesn’t make it any less painful, but… just being in the know of what is happening to Bruce makes it a little easier,” she said.

The family of Bruce Willis announced Wednesday that the actor is stepping away from acting after being diagnosed with the cognitive disorder aphasia, but new reporting suggests that Willis’ health decline was affecting his work on the set of recent films.
In January of 2020 on the set of the film “Hard Kill,” actress Lala Kent told the Los Angeles Times that Willis twice missed his cue to fire a gun. The actress said she asked the film’s director, Matt Eskandari, to remind Willis to say his line before firing the gun, but on two takes Willis fired the gun before delivering the line, taking the actress by surprise. “Because my back was to him, I wasn’t aware of what was happening behind me. But the first time, it was like, ‘No big deal, let’s reset,’” she said.

Several of Bruce Willis’ recent directors spoke to the Los Angeles Times about the concerns they felt while working with the actor in the years leading up to Wednesday’s announcement that Willis has aphasia and is stepping away from his acting career. Aphasia is a language disorder caused by brain damage that affects a person’s ability to communicate. The directors witnessed the effects of Willis losing his mental acuity, which often resulted in the actor being unable to remember his dialogue. Mike Burns, who directed Willis in “Out of Death,” said he was asked to reduce the actor’s speaking parts in his film.
“It looks like we need to knock down Bruce’s page count by about five pages,” Burns wrote in a June 2020 email, obtained by the Times, to his film’s screenwriter. “We also need to abbreviate his dialogue a bit so that there are no monologues,...

Bruce Willis allegedly fired a gun loaded with a blank on the wrong cue while filming one of the myriad low-budget action movies he appeared in over the past several years despite his clear cognitive decline, according to a new Los Angeles Times report.
The story offers a striking account of Willis’ final few years as a professional actor, during which he made about 22 movies in four years even as his mental state deteriorated. On Wednesday, March 30, Willis’ family said he would be “stepping away” from acting because he was...

Jesse Metcalfe has signed on for MGM and Lightworkers’ new faith-based family drama “On a Wing and a Prayer,” starring opposite Dennis Quaid and Heather Graham.
Based on a true story, Quaid stars as Doug White, who’s forced to fly a plane after the pilot dies unexpectedly mid-flight.
The movie is the latest production from MGM’s Lightworkers — the company, founded by Roma Downey and Mark Burnett, is behind “The Bible” miniseries and MGM and Paramount’s contemporary “Ben-Hur” adaptation. Downey will produce the movie alongside Autumn Bailey-Ford, with Burnett serving as an executive producer. Directed by Sean McNamara from a screenplay by Brian Egeston, “On a Wing and a Prayer” is currently in production and slated for release on Aug. 31, 2022.

Out of Death is the latest Emmett/Furla production, a company who seem to be following the Pm Entertainment model of churning out action movie after action movie, with actors who are either long-term mid-carders or, like Willis, are in the twilight of their career. I’m not complaining. There was, for quite some time, a distinct lack of mid-budget original action movie fare made in the US. Of course there are the many Dtv franchises that Universal 1440 put out: Behind Enemy Lines, The Marine, Death Race, Sniper, etc. but not much by way of original storytelling. Emmett/Furla obviously saw the same gap in the market are thankfully filling that hole… With varying degrees of success may I add. But they’re still filling a...

As is tradition, the Golden Raspberry Awards announced its winners on the eve of the Oscars. The Razzies, now in their 41st year, are a tongue-in-cheek ceremony that “honor” the worst films of the year. Scroll down for the full list of winners (and nominees) in all nine Razzie Awards categories ranging from Worst Picture to Worst Remake, Rip-Off, or Sequel.
Leading the 2021 Razzie Awards winners list is “Music,” Sia‘s ill-conceived film about the relationship between an autistic girl (Maddie Ziegler) and her newly sober half-sister (Kate Hudson). Sia won Worst Director while Ziegler, who is not autistic, and Hudson were singled out for acting dishonors.
“Music,” which was filmed in 2017, had been a surprise contender at the Golden Globes, earning bids for Best Musical/Comedy and for leading lady Hudson. Among those that Ziegler faced off against was Glenn Close for “Hillbilly Elegy,” who is also in contention at Sunday’s Oscars.

Gold Derby users are predicting the “winners” in all nine categories at the 2021 Razzie Awards, which go to the worst achievements in film and will be announced on Saturday, April 24, the day before the Oscars celebrate the industry’s best (though this year there’s some overlap). So who will win? Scroll down for our official racetrack odds, with our projected winners highlighted in gold.
It looks like bad news for “Music,” which is the front-runner to win Worst Picture, Worst Director (Sia), Worst Actress (Kate Hudson), and Worst Supporting Actress (Maddie Ziegler). The film was criticized early on when singer-songwriter Sia cast Ziegler in the title role as an autistic girl instead of an autistic actor. It found itself back in the media’s crosshairs after the Golden Globes surprisingly nominated it for Best Film Comedy/Musical and Best Actress (Hudson). Argentinian filmmaker Alejandro Brugués is attached to direct the Netflix horror film The Last Will and Testament of Charles Abernathy. It’s based on Chris Lamont and Joe Russo’s original screenplay that was featured on the 2018 BloodList and sold to the streamer.
Paul Schiff, who collaborated with Netflix on the Sam Worthington-starring thriller Fractured, is producing the pic for Paul Schiff Productions.
The story follows billionaire Charles Abernathy who, on the eve of his 75th birthday, invites his four estranged children back home out of fear that tonight someone – or something – is coming to kill him. To ensure his family will help protect him from whatever’s coming, Abernathy puts each of their inheritances on the line – they’ll get nothing if he’s found dead by dawn.
Dan Clarke will serve as executive producer.

Iranian-American director Matt Eskandari is attached to helm Breakers, a political action-thriller written by Janice Eymann and David Rollins.
Breakers is based on the 2009 presidential elections in Iran and the ‘firewall’ the regime put up to try to choke dissent.
It follows two parallel stories that merge; one of students writing algorithms to pierce the firewall, and a retired CIA agent who takes a team of four ex-Special Forces into Iran to rescue their female asset who has proof the election was rigged.
Eskandari’s recent credits include three Bruce Willis-actioners: Hard Kill, Survive The Night and Trauma Center. The director immigrated to the US as a child with his family following the Iranian revolution.
Eymann, CEO of Filmworks Company, and Rollins are producing the project with Tim Maddocks of Maddfilms. The executive producer is Jomon Thomas (Hotel Mumbai).

Die Hard star Bruce Willis may have taken down the Gruber brothers, but it seems he’s met his match in a Rite Aid clerk. According to a report from Page Six, Willis was kicked out of a Los Angeles branch of the store after refusing to wear a mask while shopping. Compounding the situation is that he was pictured with a bandana around his neck, which would have sufficed as a mask and just makes him look like a giant baby about the whole thing.
All this comes against the background of Los Angeles descending into Covid-19 hell. When it comes to Netflix’s Top 10 most-watched list, there are a few things that you can usually find there no matter when you take a look at the chart. The first is obviously anything involving Adam Sandler in any capacity, the second is whatever high-profile original project has been recently released by the streamer, and for some reason, the third is wholly mediocre B-tier action movies.

Nothing will ever be able to take away Bruce Willis‘ status as an iconic action hero, based entirely on the fact that he starred in Die Hard, which is arguably the finest ever entry in the genre’s long and illustrious history. As well as appearing in a further four sequels, the rapidly receding actor also went on to feature in box office hits and cult classics like The Last Boy Scout, The Fifth Element and Armageddon to name but three.
However, the 65 year-old is apparently determined now to torpedo his reputation by lending his name to a consistent string of terrible bargain basement action thrillers that occupy the darkest depths of the VOD market, many of which are so irredeemably awful that even Nicolas Cage would probably turn them down.
Willis is certainly keeping himself busy, though, showing up in no less than fourteen such efforts in the last five years alone,...

When you hear that there’s a new Bruce Willis movie to watch, you probably don’t make many positive assumptions about it. But nevertheless, he remains one of Hollywood’s most prolific actors, and there’s no denying that he seems willing to keep churning out films so long as people keep flocking to them.
His newest effort has just landed on Netflix, but we’d advise viewing it at your own risk. Action thriller Hard Kill tells the story of a billionaire CEO (Willis) who hires a mercenary group to protect a deadly piece of tech. But when his daughter is kidnapped, the leader (Jesse Metcalfe) and his team must work fast to protect her and ensure that the lethal technology doesn’t result in humanity’s demise.

November is among the least respected months on the calendar. Falling between objectively the two best holidays, November is usually all about recovering from the spookies of Halloween while getting ready for the good vibes the holiday season. For its new releases of November 2020, Netflix has decided to just go ahead and get Christmas over with.
Netflix has already released a list of all its holiday offerings for November and December, and it’s those holiday offerings that take the most prominence this month. The biggest project of all of these is undoubtedly The Christmas Chronicles 2, which premieres on Nov. 25. In this holiday sequel, Kurt Russell reprises his role as Hot Santa Claus who must save the season once again.
On the non-holiday side of things, Netflix’s Emmy-winning series The Crown returns for season 4 on Nov. 15. And speaking of things that desperately want to win awards, Ron Howard...

There’s an entire generation of movie fans that likely have no idea that Bruce Willis was once one of the biggest and most popular stars on the planet, such is the speed at which the action icon has descended into mediocrity. As if the countless VOD bargain basement titles that he constantly shows up in aren’t enough of an indication that he’s thrown in the towel, the 65 year-old recently appeared as John McClane in a commercial for car batteries.
You’d arguably have to go back to Rian Johnson’s 2012 sci-fi Looper to find the last time Willis gave a great performance, which isn’t encouraging when he’s pumped out a further 25 movies since then, most of which have never seen a theatrical release. VOD is for more than low-budget action movies. Janelle Monae, Millie Bobby Brown, and Jessica Chastain rule this week, starring in three distinctive films available only to home audiences. “Enola Holmes” on Netflix, and “Ava” are new to VOD this week, while the premium-price “Antebellum” is riding high in its second weekend at $19.99.
“Ava,” released September 25, currently sits at #1 on both AppleTV and Google Play at a standard new-release price of $6.99. It was a troubled production: Matthew Newton wrote the film (originally titled “Eve”) and developed it with Chastain, who stars as an assassin in a secret organization. However, he stepped down as its director about a month before production began in September 2018 after facing public backlash to his past charges of domestic violence and assault. (Newton pled guilty.)
Tate Taylor, who previously directed Chastain in “The Help” and “Ma,” replaced Newton; after the film wrapped, it was retitled “Ava.

Exclusive: Robert De Niro, Colson “Machine Gun Kelly” Baker and John Malkovich are set to star in Wash Me in the River, a drama that will mark the second directorial outing of Randall Emmett. Emmett, who just restarted production on Midnight in the Switchgrass after halting five days in because of the pandemic last March, has a week left to go. He will begin production on Wash Me in the River November 9 in Georgia and Puerto Rico.
The Wash Me in the River package becomes a hot title in the Toronto Film Festival marketplace. An action-thriller in the vein of No Country for Old Men, the Adam Taylor Barker script focuses on a recovering opioid addict who seeks revenge on the dealers responsible for selling the drugs that resulted in his fiance’s death. The Premium VOD debut of United Artists’ “Bill & Ted Face the Music” topped charts from the moment it debuted August 28. As a mid-budget title that’s thriving at $19.99, it could be as important as “Tenet” in determining the shape of movie distribution. “Bill & Ted” didn’t see much theatrical play, but given its day-and-date debut it also didn’t have the option. About 1,000 independent theaters did play the title, where by our estimate it grossed around $1.1 million, or around $1,000 per theater.
That’s not a lot, but it’s better than Searchlight’s theater-only flop “The Personal History of David Copperfield.” Based on those two performances, UA made the right move: Searchlight devoted marketing spend to a disappointheatrical release that now must wait until November before it can play VOD.
“Bill & Ted” was first on all three possible charts. “Fatima” (Picturehouse), the other new PVOD entry, appeared on two.

A new action thriller starring Bruce Willis is now available to watch on demand, but you may not want to. Hard Kill is currently sitting at the infamous 0% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, but for those of you feeling intrepid enough to check it out, this is what to expect:
Mercenaries find themselves racing the clock to stop a world-changing computer program from being triggered.
In Hard Kill’s defence, there is a caveat to lend to its 0% rating. Only 12 Tomato-certified critics have reviewed it so far, a much smaller sample size than you’d see for mainstream releases. I can also offer the fact that it clocks in at just under 100 minutes, meaning that you won’t be subjected for very long. However, awful films have a habit of making even the smallest units of time stretch into infinity, so even that may not be a positive.

After taking off the spring in Los Angeles due to the coronavirus, Jesse Metcalfe is working again. Last week, the 41-year-old actor began as a lead on a Hallmark TV movie, “Ships in the Night: A Martha’s Vineyard Mystery,” on Vancouver Island in British Columbia. The production, which was delayed from March, finally got off the ground after the cast and crew adhered to rigorous quarantine protocol.
Before flying to Canada, Metcalfe had to get a Covid-19 test in Los Angeles. Once he landed, he had to agree to 14 days in quarantine — in case he had contracted coronavirus on his flight — and then get another test before he started shooting. Cast and crew aren’t allowed to leave the vicinity of where they are shooting, to lower the chance of getting sick and spreading the deadly virus.

Hard Kill sounds like a fake movie that people in a movie would go and see. The upcoming action thriller stars Bruce Willis as a billionaire tech CEO who’s hired a team of mercs to guard a new, lethal gadget. Things go pear-shaped, though, when Willis’ character’s daughter is kidnapped by terrorists and his security chief Derek Miller (Desperate Housewives’ Jesse Metcalfe) must chase down the baddies, rescue the girl and save the world. The movie is heading to select drive-in theaters and VOD on August 28th and now, a new clip has been released showing masked men firing guns at each other in a warehouse.
I know it’s unfair to judge a film before I’ve seen it, but this is just about the most generic gunfight I’ve ever witnessed. You have a bunch of anonymous masked men firing wildly at one another yet hitting nobody,...

Once upon a time, Bruce Willis was one of the biggest stars in Hollywood, able to pick and choose his projects however he saw fit having established a solid track record at the box office ever since Die Hard first catapulted him towards the top of the A-list.
However, the 65 year-old’s star has faded dramatically over the last decade, and having sleepwalked his way through virtually every one of his major roles recently, he now finds himself occupying the same territory as Nicolas Cage. Both veterans have a string of critical and commercial hits under their belts, but are a lot more likely to be found slumming it in a bunch of bargain-basement action movies that don’t even come under consideration for a theatrical release.

When we talk about action films, there are quite a few themes and tropes that pop up frequently. There’s the “one last mission.” Also, let’s not forget about “getting the team back together.” Of course, there’s also the “this time it’s personal.” So, if these are phrases that make you giddy, you’re going to love “Hard Kill.”

This morning Vertical Entertainment reports a company VOD record for the release of Bron Studios Josh Trank Tom Hardy gangster pic Capone with a 10-day gross of $2.5M-plus.
Capone was released on May 12 via on-demand platforms including, but not limited to, iTunes, where it soared to #1 on the charts within its first 3 days of release. VOD figures aren’t always readily reported, but perhaps with more movies going to the platform during Covid-19, distributors will make them more transparent. Reports last had Universal/DreamWorks Animation’s Trolls World Tour at close to $100M off Pvod, but Warner Bros. never reported anything last weekend on their in-home release of Scoob which was available both for 48-hour rental and digital purchase.
To give you some idea of the momentum of Capone: The pic’s first 10 days rep close to 40% of what Radius’ Bong Joon Ho 2014 movie Snowpiercer made over its first...

Pic, which is in pre-production, is being written and directed by Corey Large and Edward Drake (Breach), with Large also producing. It follows a group of warriors and scientists who must fight to protect and save their race when a hostile alien species with the power to infect and take over human hosts sets its sights on a futuristic human society.
