The official trailer for “Waco: American Apocalypse,” a new documentary series about one of the bloodiest shootouts in American history, was released by Netflix on Wednesday.
The three-part docuseries tells the story of David Koresh, a cult leader who took control of the Branch Davidians religious sect in the late ’80s, claiming to be its final prophet. Allegations about polygamy and child sexual abuse on Koresh’s part surfaced in the years that followed, prompting the federal government to raid Koresh’s Mount Carmel Center compound near Waco, Texas on February 28, 1993, in a bloody siege that lasted for 51 days. The standoff was breathlessly captured on live television and ended in the deaths of 86 people — 4 FBI agents and 82 members of the cult including Koresh — and the destruction of the compound in a fire.
Released to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the siege, “American Apocalypse” is described by Netflix as “immersive” and featuring “cutting-edge visual technology.

Former Drug Enforcement Administration agent James Kuykendall is suing Amazon Studios, along with those associated with its docuseries “The Last Narc,” for defamation as a result of his characterization on the show.
The four-part series, released in July, tells the true story of Enrique “Kiki” Camarena, a special agent with the DEA, who was kidnapped, tortured and murdered in Guadalajara, Mexico in 1985. The investigation following Camarena’s death resulted in numerous convictions of drug lords associated with the Guadalajara Cartel behind Camarena’s death.
According to the lawsuit — who names the defendants as star and former DEA supervisor and special agent Hector Berrellez, assistant producer John Massaria, executive producer Tiller Russel, Good Pixel Productions and the Intellectual Property Corporation — “the Show masquerades as a factual documentary, but in reality, it aims to capitalize on Camarena’s tragic murder by scandalizing it for profit and for entertainment value.”

To say that documentarian Tiller Russell has a knack for discovering unconventional characters is an understatement. From NYPD cops running a cocaine ring (2015’s The Seven Five), to a Russian mobster, a Cuban spy and a Miami playboy conspiring to sell a Soviet sub to the Cali cartel (2018’s Operation Odessa), the filmmaker has more than earned his gonzo doc bona fides. And the weird winning streak continues with the director’s four-part docuseries The Last Narc, premiering on Amazon Prime Video today. The story catalyzing Russell’s latest is one familiar to any viewer of the first season of Netflix’s Narcos: Mexico — the 1985 kidnapping […]...

Amazon has released the trailer for The Last Narc, a four-part docuseries that promises to show the story of the “real Narcos.” The tagline is in reference to the hit Netflix crime drama Narcos, whose most recent season Narcos: Mexico has more than a few crossovers with The Last Narc. The Last Narc explores the 1985 kidnapping and murder of […]

There’s plenty of content to watch across every major streaming platform already, something everyone has certainly appreciated during the ongoing pandemic. But who would dare complain about even more movies and shows to check out? Lucky you – Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime and Disney Plus are all getting new stuff to watch this weekend, and some of it is absolutely worth your time.
Over on Netflix, you’ll definitely want to check out District 9, a film that delicately handles being both a compelling sci-fi action flick and a political statement that tackles xenophobia and racism. If you’re needing something a bit more light-hearted though, there’s always the David Spade comedy, The Wrong Missy, which is sitting at a pretty rough 31% on Rotten Tomatoes but is nevertheless doing exceptionally well with audiences.

Looking for the UK Amazon Prime new releases? Click here instead!
It’s been awhile since the world has seen a new comedy from Greg Daniels, co-creator of The Office (U.S.) and Parks and Recreation. That all changes this month with Amazon Prime’s new releases for May 2020. That’s right, leading the pack of Amazon originals on May 1 is Daniels’ Upload, a comedy about digital afterlives. That should inject a healthy dose of sci-fi “middletopia” into our lives.
Also premiering in May is the second season of Amazon Prime’s twisty drama Homecoming. This season starts Janelle Monáe and premieres on May 22. After that, the rest of Amazon’s originals this month are fairly film-centric. The Goldfinch, Seberg, and The Vast of Night are the notable original films arriving in May.

Streaming services are very much keeping us occupied at the moment, and there are plenty of them around offering all sorts of different options for your beleaguered eyes during this pandemic.
Amazon Prime Video UK is slightly different, because it can be available as part of the Prime subscription package. Netflix isn’t yet willing to send us cat food and a twelve-year-old copy of Dune on DVD. Disney+ doesn’t try and flog us a tablet. Now TV hasn’t flung a gift card with frightening speed at the face of someone’s birthday you forgot …yet. Prime just hits different.
Also, Prime gets much weirder the longer you spend scrolling through its wares. If you haven’t fallen down a rabbit hole of old VHS rips and weird public service films on the eighth layer of Prime’s interface, you haven’t yet experienced the full glory of...

Amazon Prime Video is gearing up to release the four-part docuseries “The Last Narc,” and the streaming service’s trailer promises new insights about the kidnapping and murder of DEA agent Enrique “Kiki” Camarena.
Per Amazon, “The Last Narc” tells the story of a fallen hero, the men who killed him in 1985, and the one man who risked everything to find out what really happened and why. Highly decorated special agent Hector Berellez, who was assigned to lead the DEA’s investigation of Camarena’s murder, peels back the layers of myth and propaganda to reveal the bone-chilling truth about a conspiracy that stretches from the killing fields of Mexico to the halls of power in Washington, D.C.
