This episode was amazing!

Warning: Spoilers
I really did enjoy this episode. From the high action, to the drama with HPD, the episode was simply amazing. I really liked the fact that the episode used "off screen" writing, allowing for more screen time for the amazing scenes. I also enjoyed the fact that the episode used real restaurants (Chubbies Burgers) while also using the iPhone UI and words like "AirDrop" in the writing. Great job!

Despite all of this, there were a few problems. For one, the episode has Katsumoto becoming Magnum's new assistant. This is a problem, as isn't that iilegal? Also, I didn't exactly enjoy the logic in the case. The guy who was killed didn't seem like the kind of person who would kill someone, but maybe that was a acting issue.

There were also a few other things that were good about this episode. For one, this issue address the "lawless state" problem that is depicted in Magnum P.I. In previous episodes, Magnum and his friends were able to get away with certain things, like having big weapons and other things. In this episode, the HPD is chasing after Magnum's Ferrari, after the two criminals frame him and Higgins. Also, Rick does community service as a result of being an associate of Icepick (2x20), and even gets his sniper taken away at the end of the episode.

Overall, this episode isn't perfect. It has a few flaws and such, but it's still a pretty good episode. The writers managed to get a lot of good paced drama in just the first half of the episode! That's something that hasn't really been done before.

good start to series

Good start plenty of action liked the fact that Robins Nest was not an excuse to spend, spend, spend. Good action. What really got my attention was in the tiki bar when covid was alluded to because it was quiet without shoving covid down our throats as a PC message. I believe other USA programmes have not been as subtle.

Hope it gets better

The rest of this season has t I get better right? The worst episode of the show, it was so transparent and predictable but more than that it was terrible writing and even worse as a concept. Theres nothing worse than a former seal that cant fight, there were more than a few times where magnum was talked to like he did something wrong, like calling katsumoto when all they were doing was going to talk to someone. It was just bad all the way around in almost every way. It makes me sad because it looks like its going to end up being as bad as macgyver which is bad enough to write a book about...

Dumb & Dumber Investigations?
Johnny_West6 December 2020
New clients hire Magnum (Higgins has no private investigator's license), and they never get paid any kind of retainer fee? So they are driving all over Hawaii for free, in a sports car that takes Supreme gas, and gets about 10 miles per gallon? They have no clue who their clients are? Do they even make a copy of the drivers licenses of their clients? They usually don't do a background check on their clients. Magnum does zero due diligence as to the people who hire him. Not only that, but holding out Higgins as a private investigator when she has no license is a fraud on their clients.

On more than one episode, it turns out that Magnum & Higgins are out doing the legwork for villains who want to kill somebody. All the wrongful death lawsuits that should be pending against Magnum & Higgins should keep Robin Masters busy hiring lawyers! What a major lawsuit for negligence and incompetence Magnum should have against him in this episode!

Meanwhile, Detective Katsumoto (Tim Kang), who is a good actor, gets to be Magnum's gopher and police stooge in every episode. Sad to see a good actor in such a demeaning role, covering up for Magnum's criminal activities. Why does Magnum end up violating laws in every episode? Mostly because he is really dumb, and cannot figure out how to do it the right way.

The big scene when the villains get the drop on Magnum and Higgins is that Magnum fights like a girl. Magnum gets tossed all over the place, like a rag doll. Some ex-Navy Seal he is! Higgins (Perdita Weeks) is usually the tougher fighter.

At some point a main character gets shot in the middle of the stomach, and a couple of hours after surgery, they are eating like nothing happened. In the real world, a certain length of the intestines or part of the stomach, would have probably been removed as a result of the gunshot to the abdomen. The gunshot victim would have been on intravenous feeding for many days, not eating snacks right after surgery. Whoever writes for this show has no clue about gunshot wounds, surgery, or medical trauma!
