If '80s anime had an illegitimate child, it would have grown up to be this show.

In a year with shoes like God of High School, and Fire Force season 2, this show kinda fails in the action anime genre. 3 episodes in, and i couldn't care less what happens to any of the characters. Animation is stiff and the plot is super cheesy. Time travel AND post apocalyptic virus monsters that bullets can't hurt, but swords CAN? Miss me with this nonsense.

The CGI reminds me of beastwars from the 90's, the characters are wooden and the animation and the time travel plot seems forced. Its still interesting from a so bad its good point of view. But they really need to lose that CG.

I have something else to say...

Before watching this show, I couldn't understand why it had such negative reviews everywhere. Of course, that didn't stop me from watching this my-type-of-action-anime, but I slowly found myself understanding a few possible reasons. Gibiate is animated beautifully, but it has a really bad CGI. It doesn't affect the overall impact initially, but the quality starts dropping from episode 6 where some of the CGI just ends up looking too plastic and at times, unintentionally funny. I still can't understand why the makers decided to go ahead with this style when the non-CGI portions featuring the creatures were so good.

Nevertheless, all's not over for it. Gibiate makes up for it in the form of a solid writing. Right from episode 1, the story unfolds at a good pace and we get to learn a lot about the characters throughout the show. The character moments are deftly handled, and the action sequences, though slightly ruined by the CGI, are still well choreographed and fun to watch. The biggest plus point of Gibiate, however, is its epic soundtrack. The opening music is just out of the world.

If bad CGI still hurts you and a heads up is needed, all I can say is episode 11 has the most usage of CGI and while it looks out of place, the tight writing and solid action save it, eventually leading to a much better and improved final episode. Given how poorly it has fared with viewers, I don't think there's scope for a second season. Still, give Gibiate a try if you like action anime. Yes, it's far from perfect and its single flaw might even ruin it for a lot of you, but it also has the excitement and fun a genre lover would want to seek, while also being open-minded.
