A big group hug

Some much needed backstory on Big Man. Nonso Anozie has been absolutely fantastic the entire season, he truly shines in this finale. The First Man/General Abbott storyline is a bit cartoonish, very heavy handed. Bear... her character is written so poorly it becomes painful, it's not the actresses fault, its the writers. Bear is an exposition monster, through and through.

The music selection for the show has been excellent. The production, sets, and costumes were also great. Love the use of color, the cinematography, also excellent. Other than the ridiculously awful Tiger the CGI has also been okay.

The show is fine, I'm not the intended audience, I believe the show is aimed squarely at Gen Z, young adults. It would be a great watch for a "family time" type situation. It's a live action YA graphic novel, think Stranger Things, only not as complex. Don't look too closely, think too deeply, or get too into the details. If you can suspend belief, the show works.

Sweeter Than Life and Bigger Than a Tooth!

The best episode in the series, one that reflects the importance of having family, and the desire to fight for them no matter the cost. Don't listen to anyone who writes bad things about this episode or the series in general - it is full of kindness and good heart for good people, something that is missing in many places around the world nowadays!

Season One Review
southdavid6 July 2021
Netflix's "Sweet Tooth" showed up on my radar as it was an adaptation of a DC comic, but it's pretty far from any world of Superheroes and is enormously prescient showing up as it did in the time of covid.

A virus has killed a large amount of the human race. Though the origin of this apocalyptic threat is unknown, it's arrival coincided with the beginning of children being born as hybrids, merging aspects of various animals, with their human forms. When his father dies, Gus (Christian Convery) a human/deer hybrid leaves his home in an attempt to find his mother. He is joined on his quest by Tommy (Nonso Anozie). Elsewhere a doctor, Aditya Singh (Adeel Aktar) tries to find a cure for his wife Rani (Aliza Vellani) but baulks at the lengths he'll have to go to, to continue his research.

How did I feel about this season of "Sweet Tooth"? Ultimately, that it was alright but I'm not really sure who it was for? You might think, considering that the star is not yet a teenager and the plethora of cute animal hybrids exist in the story, that it's for children - but there are a lot of dark moments and themes, involving death, violence and vivisection. It's be intersesting to see if the show reshot anything in light of the real pandemic, as there are some scenes, particularly one in the last episode which Rhys Darby appears in that could be taken as straight commentary on how some countries have dealt with the virus.

Visually the post-apocalyptic world is interesting, but some of the visual effects are a little ropey. Though Gus himself is fine, the rest of the hybrids vary from full CGI creations, to kids in costume and are, pretty uniformly, rubbish. Performances are good across the board though, with a short but memorable turn from Will Forte and a B Story with Dania Ramirez running a hybrid protection base. Neil Sandilands main villain, General Abbot feels like he's from another show altogether, but is a welcome presence when he appears.

I could have done with the story perhaps being a little slower, with a few more adventures as "Sweet Tooth" and "Big Man" bond on their travels. I could also have done with a clearer understanding of exactly how the virus works, and what relationship it has to the hybrids.

I don't think that the show (so far) deserves to be in any discussion about the best TV, even of just the year but it was enough that I'd come back for a second season, if one was forthcoming.

Awful

Too drawn out. This could've been a 2 hour movie and it would've been just as forgettable.

I HATED THIS SHOW!! I fast forwarded through the entire episode to watch the last 1 minute, so I could say I got through it. Please, for the love of God do not bring this pile of crap back for a 2nd season!
