Cake - 205
bobcobb30126 March 2021
Warning: Spoilers
The issue with the show is that it is never so bad we want to stop watching, but it is just not working. This second season just feels unnecessary at this point.

Is Julian orchestrating the whole thing?
kirbie-3448113 February 2021
I'm getting a feeling that Julian has somehow willingly, or under Duress, orchestrated all of this from behind-the-scenes from the very beginning, and the situation is getting increasingly worse daily. It's like Julian's desperate plea to get our of whatever horrible situation he's gotten himself into. He's so desperate that he is willing to go through a lot of trouble to blackmail his sister and his brother-in-law for over 20,000+ dollars. I find it kind of obnoxious how Julian is always trying to up-the-price of the ransom when he's talking with Sean. Like could you be any more obvious? He must be getting help with all this from his so-called wife, and from Natalie, Dorothy's friend and kinesiologist, or "therapist." The woman who suggested the reborn doll to bring Dorothy out of her catatonic state following Jericho's death in the first place. I assume the private investigator, Roscoe, is in on it too, but maybe only recently (after his whole ordeal). The question is why? Is it a race against time to bring the baby back to life? Or maybe a race to bring any of them back to life like Dorthy or Sean? What is the end game? Does Julian owe the cult his life or soul or something? Is someone dead who was promised re-birth? Are the on a different plain? How come everyone is only interacting when inside the Turner House? Is this real life? Is this a simulation? Why do they never leave the house? Are they in limbo? Are they in another dimension? Or is this all just some cult-type sacrifice, or perhaps Julian owes money to someone who has the ability to kill him and everyone he knows? I feel like the show is never going to answer my questions.

Trying to mask Bad Writing as Eerie Suspense
onikage-493245 April 2022
Warning: Spoilers
If it wasn't for the better reviews for Season 3, I would have probably given up on this show when it originally aired. I have a important message for the Shyamalans: Not having characters have important conversations, or assuming they all take place off screen, is not quality writing. They keep doing this BS every other episode and its not suspenseful, its stupid.

The worst, truly worst, aspect of dialogue for this series is how Leann just gets to be vague or ignore important questions and there's never any follow-up. They keep expecting us to go "All the characters have trauma so don't expect any rational or realistic human interaction" and Julian is the only smart, realistic one but even he is guilty of it multiple times.

In just THIS episode: 1. They get a Ransom Demand from the people who have Jericho and DON'T ask Leann about it! They don't even mention it to her!

2. Previous Episode (and many others) Sean never asks Leann about WHY he can't taste or WHY he can't feel pain, even though the uncle implied it was her doing at the end of Season 1. Then, Leann tells him she knows he got his sense of feel back and that it was how he was able to wake up and save her. Any follow-up questions on that? NO. At the very least a "How did you know". Ugh.

3. Leann doesn't mention to Sean "Hey your wife comes up here like a lunatic every night at 2am and is getting increasingly violent with me" which, if she had said something, she wouldn't have almost died.

4. Tobe. Just all of it. He literally abducted Leann under duress from Dorothy, he knows she's being held captive inside the house, there's no reason they gave as to why and this idiot keeps showing up for work and helping them. They haven't implied that he has to or that he's forever tied to this family because of the crime he's an accomplice to.

Also try to ignore the fact that they have a hostage in a situation where she can easily get out in a dozen different ways but Leann only tries using doors to leave, ignoring giant smashable windows all over or using the phone to call for help.

Co-writer Nina Braddock ruined this season.
slt-filho9 March 2021
This tale had atmosphere and ambience; it was classy, eerie and spooky at one time. Braddock entered as a co-writer and made it a half-baked theatre farce, where it's al confusion and chaos and one misunderstanding another. The script keeps pumping hysterical attacks and jokes that never fully land. The attempt to humor falls flat, relying mostly on failed punchlines and the f-word (the brother said it 10 times in his three scenes of one episode alone). This had a good concept but this writer has ruined it.
