"A Moveable Mystery" is not the only time the Scooby Doo franchise has centered around fashion, set in Paris or had a gargoyle as a villain. 'What's New Scooby Doo's' "Ready to Scare" for example had all three, and did it pretty well. Seeing a setting and occupation revisited didn't bother me whatsoever, the Scooby Doo franchise revisited many settings and occupations a lot and with enough variety each time and did so successfully much more so than it didn't.
While not one of the best episodes of Season 2 or of 'Scooby Doo and Guess Who' overall, not to mention a long way from being a franchise high point, "A Moveable Mystery" is quite decent with more good things than bad. It could have been better than it was if the humour was more consistent in particular, but unlike the previous episode "The Hot Dog Dog" at least there was a discernible enough mystery and a halfway decent one. Plus the guest star is superior.
It is not a perfect episode. The episode does lose a little momentum towards the end which was a little on the predictable side. Did find myself very annoyed by the holy sounding music, which was very repetitive and at times random.
The monkey jokes and the monkey street performer scene are beyond stupid, to a rather eye rolling degree. Kate Micucci overdoes it as Velma.
However, a lot is good. The animation is beautifully detailed and vibrant with the Parisian landscapes looking both romantic and atmospheric. Most of the music is groovy and atmospheric, and while too brief the take on the original theme tune is nice. The fashion setting is wow worthy and 'Scooby Doo and Guess Who' more often than not did so well at making the most of a guest star's occupation. Gigi Hadid is a fun and charming guest star and works really well with the gang, a vast improvement over Joey Chestnut as at least she had presence and didn't feel like too much of a side character.
Did like the villain a lot, very well designed and very creepy. The mystery is a lively one and isn't thin, it is easy to follow while not being too easy to figure out thanks to a few neat clues. The gang are on the whole without issue, Scooby and Shaggy are still very funny and endearing with delightful chemistry. The voice acting is very good, especially from Matthew Lillard.
Overall, not a great one but a decent one. 7/10.
