Covering up
TheLittleSongbird13 November 2022
One of the biggest appeals of 'Law and Order' has been the topics it addresses and issues that come with the topics addressed. Also with how they are explored, the execution more often than not was hardly sugar coated or trivialised and was often pull no punches in quality. The topic covered in Season 19's fifth episode "Knock Off" is a familiar one, with both 'Law and Order' and 'Special Victims Unit' having quite a number of episodes centered around cover ups, namely because it is so important to be made aware of.

The show though has been known to revisit familiar territory and not make it too stale each time. "Knock Off" is far from stale and explores the topic with a good deal of tension and intrigue. It is a great episode in my view that is on par with the first two episodes of Season 19, "Rumble" and "Challenged", and a vast improvement over the previous two "Lost Boys" and "Falling". Not quite one of my favourite episodes of Season 19 but a good example of why the season surprised me so much.

"Knock Off" is perhaps a little on the routine side to begin with.

Very quickly, that is nearly easy to overlook because of everything else being so good. The production values as ever have slickness and grit, with an intimacy without being claustrophobic. The music has presence when it's used but does so without being intrusive, some of it is quite haunting too. The direction is also understated but the tension never slips. The script is taut and intelligent, a lot of talk but doesn't ramble or confuse.

Furthermore, the story is intriguing and although there is a lot going on and quite complex stuff it manages to not be over stuffed or convoluted. A lot of tension can be seen too, especially in the meatier second half, which is also very thought provoking and easy to be riveted by. Lupo and Bernard's chemistry has come on a lot and the supporting characters are not too over the top. The acting is great all round.

In conclusion, excellent and a return to high quality after losing its way in the previous two episodes. 9/10.

Escaping justice
bkoganbing25 November 2014
A man gets off a tour bus from a church group in upstate New York and an hour later comes staggering out of a Chinatown alley with a bullet in him. Investigation by Jeremy Sisto and Anthony Anderson show this guy was a regular crime wave up in his small town. But an examination of his rapsheet shows this man is always escaping justice including for the rape of Katee Sackhoff who has moved to New York City but is from that small town.

Naturally she's looking good for it, but a little more investigation shows that a whole lot of people had a big interest in the deceased whether he was alive or dead. Most particularly Clancy Brown the sheriff and even the governor Tom Everett Scott who appointed Sam Waterston to his new job after Fred Dalton Thompson resigned.

This one is a cover-up from start to finish and another person dies in said cover-up. Jeremy Sisto spends a night in Brown's jail as well.

Part of the ongoing saga between Waterston and Scott, Law And Order's portrait of the fall of Elliott Spitzer.

Bad attitude regarding rape victims

Warning: Spoilers
Detective Bernard would never get a job in SVU his disgraceful lack of empathy for a woman who was violently assaulted and raped is worthy of being fired from the police department. He's a reverse racist who hates white people and women in particular maybe in his personal life a white women refused his sexual advances and now he holds every white women accountable.. I'm surprised at Anita Van Burean attitude is to defend her detective every time. She should know better than anyone else how women are treated by the police. Maybe she is protecting her black Detective despite his disgusting behaviour !! Maybe if he had shot a unarmed black male . She might have had a change of heart. That is probably why she was never promoted. Biased opinion's have no place in the law and order. This poor woman was dragged and manhandled by the police and she was completely innocent. They even tried to use her fear of being touched by men to get her arrested for assaulting a police officer when they grabbed her from behind and scared her.
