A Real Improvement Over First Two Episodes
Hitchcoc25 September 2023
There are some very good things here. There is suddenly purpose and action. There is a confrontation that costs the sparrows dearly. Mom continues to worship that thing in the basement that is wiping out whole sets of beings. Five and Lila have to do something, even though their hatred is unrelenting. We see a great set of scenes when Klaus uses the sewers to find his "father." Luther is in love and acting really stupid, like a thirteen year old on steroids. Diego is being his normally dense, short-sighted self, and he has that awful kid (who is a catalyst for disaster), the spawn of him and Lila. The final scene however is quite forward thinking and who will be at the place is going to be interesting.

Loving it

It's an irreverent take on the otherwise too pompous super-hero genre. The ensemble cast works well to deliver a quite eccentric and not particularly coherent story. I'm sure it will come together later on. But for now, I like this season and am pleased to back in the Umbrella Academy world.

Overall a good episode

My only complaint is Klaus snorkeling through the sewers with plain swimming goggles. You can't snorkel unless you have a face mask that covers your nose!!

Excellent

So far I'm loving season 3. It's way more complex funny entertaining but the only thing that I have a problem with is that the story is kind of everywhere.

Woah!

I wasn't quite sure about season 3 at first. Episode 1 felt a little off kilter, but then episode 2 felt like a welcome return to form. This episode is bloody brilliant!

So many awesome moments, including Mother speaking tongues in front of her flaming ball of God, and Stanley (Diego Jnr) yelling 'Molotov this, bitches!' This is the Umbrella Academy insanity I signed up for!

Also, I love how they've made space for Elliot Page in this series, and made the most of an opportunity to include a trans character. I dont know how it feels to be trans, but the way they've written Viktor into the series feels respecrful and authentic.

Can we just have a bigger budget for special FX in season 4, please?

S3 definitely a departure from S1 & 2

Warning: Spoilers
...I'm only midway thru episode 3 but I'm kinda irked by Allison's beotcheness. I get that she's sad about Claire & Patrick but considering the issues they've aleady experienced since landing in this version of their lives, she should not have been surprised. The Sparrow characters are really weird, but I'm keeping an open mind. Luther appears to have lost a lot of his bulk since last season, looking like an everyday bodybuilder except when he's fighting, then he looks hulkier. I'm confused & distracted by it. Anyway, I'm on to episode 4...

Confrontation

Well that was definitely one heck of an ending, gotta love the UA for always delivering on great battle royale scenes. Though sub plots and tangents are still weird and unnecessary, its the vibe now.

Triggers one pet peeve of mine

Warning: Spoilers
Plot driven by bad communication.

Sorry, it's getting old. And very annoying.

Those are grownups who once trained together to fight crime. Of course they are broken. But constantly forgetting to talk to each other and then having to deal with the consequences?

So much could have been avoided if they would just inform each other about current situations. And I don't care that they are "messed up". It's season 3 and this trope is hundreds of years old.

[6.2] Towards consumation

Warning: Spoilers
Episode 3: So far and most probably till the end, season 3 is as complex as Titanium "sailing" on poodle-deep waters.

As far as episode 3 goes, aside the "marvelous" eye-candy sequence in the end displacing some of the Sparrow Academy's cells towards light and fire, we also see Robert Sheehan slightly illuminating us with his comic prowesses that are enjoyable all by themselves.

After the third episode, it becomes clear (so far) that the season lacks in flow smoothness and vibe. It also lacks in strong charismatic villains that none of the mumbo Sparrow Academy's members possess that attribute.

Hate that kid.
ruthissa10 July 2022
Hate it when a show pushes a kid on you. Stan is extra obnoxious and distracting. He makes every scene he's in tedious. Wouldn't be heart broken if he gets called home.

Huge drop in overall quality
loloimdb25 June 2022
I really love this show, but, unlike Stranger things season 4, this season is really disappointing so far. CGI and SFX seem so cheap, screenplay and storyline are a bit messy or rushed, acting is meh... or totally overacted. I really hope it improves in the remaining episodes.

Did Netflix put all its money into Stranger Things?
