Worth watching...

Today I watched a very ordinary feature film, "On the Riviera". I say ordinary because the story idea was VERY familiar and the film had already been made twice before this. However, in a wonderful case of looking at what else is on the DVD, I found that the special features (including this one) were terrific and make the film well worth seeing. Really. Of the three special features I loved on the disk, this was my least favorite--and I still give this one an 8. It is very good and taught me a lot about someone I'd never heard of--Jack Cole the choreographer. His work on this feature film and others was discussed. The only negative is that by 2007, many of the people who could have given even more background material were dead and could not be included in this short film--such as Cole himself and Gwen Verdon. Still, it's interesting and well worth a look--with nice interviews and film clips.
