Having recently purchased Kaminey on DVD as it's one of my all-time favorites, I was surprised as I watched the deleted scenes play out. I wasn't expecting anything like this. Normally, deleted scenes tend to be boring and long-drawn, due to which they're excluded from the final cut. But in case of Kaminey's deleted scenes, I can't figure out why the scenes were actually cut as they're really good! OK, that might be a bit of exaggeration since the original film was still amazing, but these scenes, especially when viewed in continuation, feel like a standalone story on their own even without much context.
That was what sold these scenes for me. Plus, most of these deleted scenes are just some stunning action sequences (deleted as well as extended), due to which the 22 minute duration flies pretty quick. The first deleted scene gives the feel of a completely different film, and I can understand why the makers chose not to take the risk of adding it because it could've been complicated to embrace for viewers not used to subtitles. Still, even thinking of making such a sequence in a Bollywood film is nothing short of a gem! Other deleted scenes are also impressive, eventually proving why some deleted scenes shouldn't be dismissed as mere extras.
I hope you too get to watch these deleted scenes if you haven't already, but for that, I guess you'll have to buy the DVD or Blu-ray only because I couldn't find all deleted scenes on YouTube. Especially if you loved the film, give this a watch! It's bound to work with you and might even make you question the same thing: was deleting it all really the right choice?
