Wow!

I am not a particular fan of horror films, so the fact that I was so thoroughly impressed by THE BOOK is a fine testament to its production values and watchability. All too often in independent shorts these days, aspiring writers, directors and actors make horror films. Very few of them are that scary and most involve clichéd characters--with way too many zombies (they've become as ubiquitous as Westerns were on television in the late 1950s). In light of this, THE BOOK manages to be different and not just a cheap short filled with too many special effects.

Now it didn't hurt that the original story was by the classic horror writer, H. P. Lovecraft. But what elevates this to the next level isn't just this story idea but the amazing direction and acting. You'd never know that these people have almost no experience in the film industry. Yet, the production is as good as anything I've seen lately--including well-financed Hollywood productions.

This is a great example of exceptionally talented people doing exceptional work. I sure hope the right people see this film and offer them tons of money to make more--and perhaps a full-length film. Watch this short!
