quantum physics
blanche-229 August 2013
This isn't a great quality film, and the gentleman speaking has a thick accent (I use closed captioning).

I have to agree with some other reviewers - an open mind is necessary when dealing with quantum physics. It's another way of looking at the world, and the world, the brain, the body, these are all complex things. Anyone who is dismissive of it, in my opinion, is somewhat arrogant, because we don't have all the answers.

I find quantum physics interesting and I've enjoyed looking into it. This is a decent film. If you're not interested in learning about it, don't watch the movie. The concepts are fascinating. It won't kill anyone to think differently for a change.

Gosh, yet another something to buy as a shortcut to enlightenment. Yet again we encounter quantum physics as the magical combo: a scientific mystery that "proves" the mysteries beyond. Just what those mysteries are, depends on the salesman of course, but it is usually some Jungian truths presented with sparkly eyes.

In this case, we get an esteemed professor who teaches the stuff, so he must know what he is talking about, right? Oh, and he is a Hindu with spiritual awards as well, so has street cred there too. Problems:

What we have in this film is basically this one guy prattling on. I suppose one could edit this into a tight film like Linklater did in "Waking Life," or could spread out like we saw in "Ayurveda." Of we could have amusing animations like "What the ##."

You have to know a few things. One is that just because someone teaches accounting doesn't mean he has insights into the dynamics of the economy. Quantum mechanics is clerical work; it is quantum logic (or whatever you choose to call the principles when divorced from physics) that is where the mysteries lay. You should also know that there is a long and seamy relationship between spiritual pitchmen and scientific notions: magnetism, vibrations, relativity, the fourth dimension have all had their turn as proof without realizing that they are metaphor.

This is bad filmmaking, bad science and unconvincing spiritual wisdom. I would point the student to "Andrey Rublyov" instead.

Ted's Evaluation -- 1 of 3: You can find something better to do with this part of your life.

This is for the Quantum-minded folks.
movie_alien20 June 2011
I watched this movie tonight with very little expectations, I didn't even know what it was. I read the other reviews after I watched it. I don't understand why people find it hard to find meaning in the quantum life of everything? There were two negative reviews and one positive review. If what I gather from the negative reviews spoke to me and to what I use to make decisions in my life, I would have been disappointed - of course.

This was about one teacher and one teacher's viewpoints on a current and evolving science that needs innovative thinkers to expand on the knowledge. I found him very engaging and very intuitive.

Might not work for everyone. But take the negative or the biased reviews (heck take the positive ones in the same way) with a grain of salt. I don't agree with many politicians but I will still listen and provide constructive feedback. Why can't people do the same for scientists? Even ones that might be labeled "fringe" by the current culture. They might have something useful to say - like the one truth we can all find our way to agree on if we examine our own ways of thinking is that it is essential to treat people how you would honestly want to be treated.

Take it for what it's worth
jlittlebass4 May 2011
Movies like this are doomed to instant and total dismissal by people who think they know everything.

Why? Because they propose possibilities that people are totally unwilling to consider, even for a moment.

This movie has one purpose, and that's to show you one man's point of view so that you can integrate his thoughts and insight into your own understanding of the universe you live in. But the people who trash it don't see it that way, they see it as "sparkly-eyed peddling of nonsense" and dismiss it entirely.

I would never say that this movie is totally truthful or correct. The point of it is that the universe we live in is a very complex place, far too complex for us to really understand, and the only way we can broaden and increase our understanding of it is to BE OPEN TO NEW IDEAS, open to the possibility that what we currently think MIGHT be wrong. That's exactly what the high-horse riders who wrote the leading reviews for this movie do not, cannot and will not ever be willing to do. And that's why they're annoying and pretentious.

I'm not going to say this movie is totally brilliant, perfect, true, etc. But I will say that it is worth seeing and worth thinking about if you're the type of person who is genuinely interested in developing and improving his or her understanding of humanity, reality, god, and the universe. But since I think most people don't fall into that category, I understand why most people will find it worthless.

Boo...
giglbox31 January 2012
This isn't really science at all. It is humorous that a PhD can give a person so much power...when supported by the right people. The biggest problem is...wait for it...GOD! This is philosophy and personal opinion dressed in scientists clothing (so to speak). The fact that someone can make an argument and then destroy it so easily by adding God to the equation should arouse suspicion in even the undergraduate mind. Just because someone uses the word "quantum" doesn't mean they know the be all end all (if there is such a thing and assuming humans could ever comprehend such), no matter how many textbooks, or how many supporters there are of the idea (which I would suggest to all to look up such supporters and the real arguments at hand). Maybe there is something to be said for spirituality in science, but I would venture an INFORMED guess that any "GOD" is not the logical outcome and the idea of spirituality is skewed in a particular direction by Goswami. If you rate this documentary more than a 5 then you essentially abandon any claim of skepticism, scientific understanding (even if just attempted understanding), and pure common sense. if you can skew evidence one way then you can skew it the other...interesting that the "other" rarely makes the definite claims as found here.

Have an open mind....
randallsnyderjr2 February 2013
I'm a late comer to this film. I wish I had seen it when it was new. I'm sharing this film with everyone I know, well that I know who aren't entrenched in their way of thinking about spirituality or religion. My partner and I watched and were inspired to do more searching for the primary concept developed in this film. What we've found is there are numerous bright people in history who share the same premise for the relationship between science and spirituality. The more we read the more we discover there is real cause for this message to reach the broadest audience possible. I would be delighted to encounter others who get it like the kindly spoken Professor Goswami. If you have the chance to absorb the content and follow the reason, I truly believe you will have shared an experience with others who are also aware of their connection to the non-local consciousness.

This is no Science
flovoss23 January 2011
After watching the first three Minutes of this Movie, i felt very bad about my money i have spend.

This Documentary tells you that there is a Scientific Revolution about the Soul God an the Be. That all can be proved with the knowledge of Quantums. By the Way he give us the prove of telepathy. Mixed with Hindu music and gibberish of Chakras, Aura, Souls and God. Its very sad that this "Documentary" is get a Award for best Documentary 2009 in Cannes.

You know there is no Science in... very very sad, i can't smoke so much pot.

Original thinkers often begin their journey alone
implicatebeing14 December 2013
Yes this film is the educated intuitions of one informed person but all innovative thinkers will inevitably appear as lone voices as they begin to awaken our curiosity in a new possibility that challenges conventional ways of knowing about reality. An open mind will lead one to reflect on a key line in this film, " everything that exists is God. nothing exists that is not God ". The essence of this film is a very important guide to understanding our daily experiences of a very complex universe. The film's suggestion that by intentionally and genuinely directing our focus on living in harmony with our best intuitions we may well create a better community environment to enjoy living in, strikes a powerful chord within me. For those of you who get this suggestion, I know you will keep living more thoughtfully and sharing your enjoyment with those who are open to exploring this. Enjoy your journey girls and guys. Take Care, Will

Waste Of Time
rich92021518 August 2015
My wife and I watched for maybe five minutes. Then I jumped forward a chapter to see if it improved. It didn't. Nothing but pseudo-science drivel and lots of meaningless footage of sunsets, rivers, people and sitar music, which had nothing to do with anything. This movie had nothing to do with quantum mechanics. Go read the Netflix reviews on this POS to get a fuller understanding of how bad it is. Save 77 minutes of your life for something more useful, such as watching grass grow or, even better, watching paint dry. On top of all the lame philosophizing the problems are compounded by the speaker having an unintelligible accent. Just because he is a PhD quantum physicist doesn't mean he knows how to preach it. He had no interest in presenting quantum mechanics, he just wanted to bloviate on about new-age BS and feelings and beliefs and spiritualism. The title is so misleading the makers should be banned from ever handling a camera again.

This is NOT fringe science
kjs-217 July 2011
It is about a man and how he came to an idea that solves a major paradox of quantum physics. I can see how some would dismiss it because of some of the terms used but in context and with a sharp mind you will find that it fits with modern physics. If you can connect the various terms that different physicists use and imagine the underlying nature of what they are all trying to describe I would say that the man in this documentary adds to that picture using his background as a physics professor and scientist and using the language of his own cultural perspective.

I appreciate different perspectives on the same subject and this film has a great idea presented in an interesting fashion with plenty of context and a good explanation. I wouldn't use it as a sole source of information on the subject of physics but then there are no such sources to be found. One simply has to search far and wide according to your own capabilities and ways of thinking.

Mostly excellent
stephenjgood22 April 2017
Some of the concepts take several viewings to fully grasp, and in some cases due to the film maker approaching them poorly or without the correct context.

Great food for though movie to get you thinking.

It could change your world view, if you are open to it.

Science, Magic, and Faith -- are they the same thing?
AshenGrey18 April 2012
I really found this documentary interesting. It seemed a lot less about quantum mechanics and seemed more about causing change to your surroundings through the imposition of will. The documentary asks some interesting concepts, such as "does reality cause thought, or does thought cause reality?" and "where does choice actually come from?" and "what is the real nature of God?" This documentary is more about philosophy than science, but it is ultimately quite interesting.

Apparently there is a fascinating concept in quantum mechanics that essentially states that all objects are essentially manifested possibilities of objects. The author then puts forth the idea that force of will and intent can shape the possibilities and turn them into manifestations.

Being a Wiccan, I can totally relate to the idea of visualization and imposition of will as tools of making change to one's environment.
