Warning: Spoilers
Doug Campbell directs Deadly Garage Sale. He's obviously a purist cause this is Lifetime Television old school, the way it was meant to be seen. Plenty of conniving, evil people manipulating average, moderately nice people. And you know someone's gonna get framed for a planned dispatching. Ah I love it when a long-running network gets back to their roots.

Deadly Garage Sale answers the question of what if LA had a suburbia feel to it. Not the buildings or Rodeo Drive or the good old La Brea Tar Pits mind you, just a regular house and a rummaged front yard (no pun intended). Deadly Garage Sale's handle, well it makes you sort of chuckle (these Lifetime titles are so general). Look closer though because this flick is the good kind of camp, the kind of camp where the fires don't stop burning.

The villain in Deadly Garage Sale is Trudee played by Juliana Destefano. She's young, very snippy, and quite the piece of work. It's in the smirk, the gradual off the rails intentions, and the eyes. Man, Destefano has got some real creepy eyes. She wants boodle, she wants the protagonist's house, and ultimately, she wants revenge. And come on let's face it, we need a break from Vivica trying to save the day for the millionth time (her and David DeCoteau are on holiday here, good).

So OK, Deadly Garage Sale seems a little implausible in regards to the mother and daughter running a dozen or so garage sales (they can't have that much stuff, can they?). And yeah, the antagonist stealing $78,000 from said daughter's college fund can only go so far (that's like one year's tuition at say, Stanford). Still, Deadly Garage Sale is well-plotted, pitiless, twisty, and entertaining as all heck. I'd "tag" it as a film I'd buy.

like it except
SnoopyStyle11 July 2023
Trudee (Juliana Destefano) and her brother Pete start stealing from weekend garage sales. Marcia Clattenburg (Aryè Campos) is their next target. Pete sneaks into the house. Marcia catches him and he falls down the stairs to his death. Trudee is furious and befriends Marcia to get her revenge. Marcia's adopted daughter Candice and the HOA disapprove of her constant garage sales, but she needs the money. Out of the blue, rich retired Nick comes into her life and it's too good to be true.

This is a Lifetime thriller and I really like it for the most part. I have two big issues. The cop is too clueless as often is the case in this type of movie. I often find smarter movies have smarter cops. It does lead to the second issue. With a smarter cop, Marcia would call on his help instead of sneaking into the lion's den by herself. Obviously, this movie is manufacturing a high-intensity conclusion. A smarter movie would do it smartly. Otherwise, I really like the premise and these lesser known actors.

Finally an original plot
pcperfectwindsor12 January 2022
Its been a while to see a movie with a different type of story. It seems like its always the same stories told different ways. So if you are looking for a thriller with a fresh and refreshing story line give it a shot.

Everything must go including the Homeowner!

Lifetime did a nice job ringing in the New Year here in 22 with a different type of movie with their typical tried and true formula! Just looking at the title and you have to roll your eyes! But, it is a bit different and works into what movies they generally put out on their network. This movie contains some really good acting. Trudee, played by a younger actress named. Juliana Destefano is fabulous! You will not be disappointed by this movie. A couple good twists and a happy ending. All sales final!

Downshift your brain to enjoy this.

Watching any Lifetime movie requires a little downshifting in belief suspension, but this one you had to stay in first gear. If you do that, then it becomes simple gratuitous entertainment.

Horrible acting!
pdqm-7005113 March 2022
Poor acting!!

Why would a woman quit her job and take up hoarding and garage sales, when she can't pay her bills?!?!

No one thought this mother was just a little unbalanced with this behavior?

LNM has never had the best acting. Once in awhile you get a good story line. However, this wasn't the case.

Who writes this stuff and why is there not better acting?

Warning: Spoilers
So you meet someone at your garage sale and hardly know anything about him. He asks you out to dinner but instead of going to dinner on your first date you hit the sack with him? What kind of an example do these PG14 TV movies set for young girls watching them? Also the woman is obviously sick in the head. She has had a great job for 20 years as a lawyer and six months ago decides to quit so she has no extra income and decides to become a garage sale junkie? Avoid this trash movie!

Not Bad

Warning: Spoilers
The story line was acceptable and the acting was somewhat good. Sometimes we do want to get revenge for when we felt wronged However, the culprits were at the wrong for stealing from the garage sale. Oh well. Not bad.

didn't like it

The editing kinda put me off, the fade to black and then the next scene starting is some imovie-level transitions, it almost made me laugh out loud. The title was also really off-putting, i would have no clue what genre the movie is let alone what the movie is about.

Wait till the end

Warning: Spoilers
This is a "Lifetime" movie, meaning it has lots of dramatic music signaling that something dramatic is going to happen. At the same time, this particular film seemed to have a fair amount of stock music that sounds oddly like it's from the 1980s. Some of the music in this film worked; most did not.

The film moves fairly slowly. Although there is an accidental death within the first 10 minutes, and while there is a murder about mid-way through, the film doesn't really pick up speed until the last 10 minutes or so, but those 10 minutes are actually quite good, so it's worth the wait.

I think the main problem I had in this film is that the two young female actresses (Juliana Destefano as the evil "Trudee" and Autumn Noel as "Candice," the bright adopted child of the protagonist) look like sisters. It took me a while to tell them apart.

Aryé Campos, who plays the lead "Marcia," has a nice 1970s mom/housewife feel about her. She isn't really allowed to be too expansive in her character, so, regrettably, she was kind of boring. But she did a good job with what she was asked to do.

The great thing about this movie is that it really does essentially take place in one big house. The producer/director knew well how to make the movie seem bigger than it really was, and if you're paying attention, you'll know that.

Both the young women did good jobs as basically polar opposites of each other. The other actors also did a good job. No one was a standout, but some of the fun about watching these movies is seeing how well actors can do with the material and limited locations.

I'm not going to detail the story here; like I said, you have to stay with it till the very end for it to pay off, which it does. I will say, though, that it seems in Lifetime movies, no one has home security systems. Also, it seems most Lifetime people do not have friends or family members, other than the immediate people you meet in the film. In this way, when watching Lifetime movies, you get to enter a parallel universe where you are watching what looks like fellow human beings in danger, and yet, if people really used their brains, most of what happens in these films could never take place.

That said, "Deadly Garage Sale" had some great laughs (some unintentional) and some thriller/gasp moments (mostly at the end), and for a one-time watch with some popcorn, it's fun!

Chartreuse14 January 2022
This was a real thriller to bring in the New Year! Candace and her mom, Marcia, have a garage sale but are robbed by a thief who ends up dead in their house. Unfortunately, his sister wants to take everything Marcia has away from her including her daughter! Interesting script and good acting made this a definite recommend!!!

There's No Place Like Home
lavatch7 July 2023
Warning: Spoilers
One has to feel for poor Marcia Clattenburg, a devoted single mom living off her garage sales. She never does anything wrong. But in this film, she endures a string a bad luck that would rival the suffering of Job.

After a robber falls down the stairs of her home to his death, his demented sister Trudee seeks revenge on Marcia. Trudee's schemes set in motion most of the film's action in which Marcia's daughter Candace is arrested for murder. Marcia is about to lose her house and even her life unless fate intervenes.

The film was well scripted with snappy dialogue. A tongue-in-cheek style evolved with the actors hitting all the right notes. The actress playing Marcia was stellar in her Polyanna-like naivete that led her into the trap of her nemesis. But Marcia also had some backbone, as apparent in the film's home stretch.

The heart and soul of the film was the relationship of Marcia with her beloved adopted daughter Candace. While the house may have been cleared out of the clutter and memories of the past, the characters ultimately came to one simple realization: there's no place like home.
