Postpartum depression... Maddie
cockezville26 May 2021
I thought Jennifer Love Hewitt has shown her acting chops with the postpartum depression depiction, She is able to portray the anxiety, depression and veil of fog this disease takes. I wonder how they will deal with her next season when in her real life she is pregnant. I do think that Angela Bassett overacts is some scenes.. thought is was a solid season closed.

Am a little disappointed by how the the season finale turned out
maggiemargaret12325 May 2021
Warning: Spoilers
But i'm so glad Eddie Diaz is alive and well. Ryan Guzman isn't going anywhere and i hope that marks the end of this gossip once and for all.

Back to the episode. I loved all the Buck, Eddie and Chris moments. Even though i had hoped for a little more Eddie in this episode (this season really did his character so wrong, he hasn't had a good storyline at all). But nah they made it all about Buck. Don't get me wrong i love Oliver's acting, but not everything needs to be about him. Was it really that necessary to shoehorn Taylor Kelly into this episode? We could have gotten more Maddie and Eddie instead of this forced, oh now i want you Buck. I hated every part of these scenes, because it was all about what she wanted. Buck deserves better than that thing. But i guess the writers still want to play it save. Totally disappointing.

If I could give more stars I would
meadow-6463226 May 2021
This episode was perfect, a mixture of storylines and feelings that as always teach and show a depth everyone would love to see portrayed on their screens.

It was perfect on so many levels that I can't even start to cope, but Tim Minear, if you are out there and you can read this, man you did a beautiful job.

The finale left me happy and satisfited, other than filled with emotion, and thinking about the next season makes me excited, but not with that craving feeling of not being able to live without this series, instead it gave me the peace that only an amazingly built epilogue can assure.

By this I mean, I could not be more satisfied and so genuinely curious and thrilled to see how they are going to address all the still open storylines or their outcomes in season 5.

Honestly hopeful and happy, good job 911!

I prefer Taylor and Buck as friends
agentsofsword11 September 2021
I dont really see them as a couple but i liked them when they are just good friends.

I hope Maddie goes back to normal next season and the Buck and Christopher scene made me emotional.

Athena's detective skills is really good and Oliver Stark is a great actor!

He deserves more recognition cast him in big movies😭 i kinda feel bad for his filmography.

Good but
moonlight_strand8 June 2021
Warning: Spoilers
This season finale was good, but it definitely lacked a little bit compared to how hyped up it was during the promotion of the episode.

Let me just say that ratings have been dipping more and more as the season continued, and managed to shoot right back up simply because people who have never watched 9-1-1 before, simply tuned in to see if Eddie, whom people have been referring to as "the gay firefighter", was going to survive or not. More on that in a bit.

The beginning was well done, Buck freaking out and yanking Eddie into the fire truck to get him to the hospital, Eddie waking up and immediately being worried of Buck was hurt. Buck's entire state of panic was greatly performed.

When the team and Athena were trying to prepare for safety in case of another shooting, I wish it wasn't done in such a "playful way". It was a montage with some corny music to it, which I feel took away from what should've been a much more scary and intense experience. One of their own got sniped, it should've at least warranted more fear and caution, and not some whack montage. It really affected the atmosphere the finale kicked off with.

Maddie finally expressing that she needs help and acknowledging that she needs help due to her postpartum was very heartbreaking, a very well done storyline this episode. Props to Jennifer!

Bobby and Athena working out their struggles and understanding that they need to work more as a married couple is also great.

And of course, Buck and Eddie's whole scenes together with Buck rushing into the hospital and breathing a sigh of relief to see that Eddie was okay was really awesome. Not to mention Eddie hiding the fact that he made Buck his son's legal guardian over a year ago! That was really unexpected, but so welcome! It really shows off how much Buck means to Eddie and Christopher. And Eddie calling Buck "Evan" was super sweet too. Very great scenes with the two of them which I feel we're also really needed this season.

The biggest gripe I have with the finale and this season is Taylor and Ana. Long story short, Ana is a very plain character who honestly has no chemistry with Eddie and by the writing of the story, especially with Carla being reintroduced to tell Eddie to not just do what's in Christopher's best interest, and to do what makes him happy. Here, Eddie questioned internally that maybe Ana isn't right for him after all. This will most likely lead into their breakup next season and I'm here for it.

However, Taylor I feel really shouldn't be here. I understand Buck is in his 3.0 phase, ready to settle down and not be like his previous personalities. But Taylor really isn't it. We haven't seen her since season 2, especially when he made a huge deal of Taylor intentionally trying to trash his 118 family, who he cares for immensely. Yet she's introduced again in season 4 and they're just suddenly friends. Make it make sense. To be honest, they were doing well as friends and would've totally been down to just have them remain as friends. But the writers have been trying to push Buck into this relationship with her and it just feels incredibly rushed and boring.

This episode was meant to be mainly about Eddie and his trauma after the gunshot (the writers acting like just because he's a veteran, he'll shrug off the gunshot, which is really dumb). However, they made the episode more about Buck and as much as I love Buck, it really wasn't the time for him and his personal relationship with Taylor. Their multiple kiss scenes were extremely unnecessary and once again, the relationship is just so dull, plain, and just not exciting.

The fact that the writers want to keep her on for the next season to show off a TV Reporter POV really isn't as good as they think it is. We've seen Taylor plenty of times and let me tell you, it's being incredibly played out. We already see the emergency when the 118 arrives on the scene, and hear of it when the call is taken at the dispatch center. A news report is really really unnecessary and really makes Taylor obsolete. The show runner Tim Minear already stated it's hard in his opinion to write storylines for partners that are not also first responders. This basically explains that Taylor really isn't gonna have any good storylines and her character is just going to be completely boring, along with Ana. Taylor really just doesn't bring any buzz and is just a really boring person to pair with Buck and it really should be considered to remove her ASAP from Season 5 because this constant hetero relationship is just not it (excluding Bobby and Athena, and Chimney and Maddie because they do it excellently, not to mention because they're first responders).

Just like many fans, Buck and Eddie's relationship should be pursued even more next season, especially after making Buck a legal guardian of Christopher. Buck and Eddie have had such great chemistry since Season 2 and have had their relationship showcased in really great ways. Buck hasn't had much besides his job, and ever since Eddie came into his life with Christopher, he has finally been apart of their family dynamic and belongs with them. Hell, Eddie made him a legal guardian man, you might as well just make them date already.

Having another LGBTQ+ relationship on the show would be 10x more interesting than the plain relationships with Ana and Taylor that are present, and the writers can do it because they already went this far with Buck and Eddie and acknowledge the great chemistry they have together.

Tim Minear, if you're reading, just take your shot with Buck and Eddie as a couple. We can tell you're lacking on stories for 9-1-1 now that it's entering its 5th season and pursuing this relationship would be one of the best things you could possibly do. You're already on track with it after all.

Overall, the finale was good. But making Eddie's trauma all about Buck instead of Eddie, and shoving Taylor into the episode with random kisses really shouldn't haven't been done as it took away from the ambience of the episode. Great job with the other characters though.

Just hoping that Season 5 can bring forth good examples of writing like it did in Season 2 and 3.

Emotional Finale
AnimatedCritic25 May 2021
Warning: Spoilers
This episode had lots of surprises, and was probably my favorite 9-1-1 season finale. The main idea with the sniper targeting firefighters was a great, exciting, and thrilling plot. Even though Eddie and Bobby got shot, they lived, with was a relief yet a disappointment.

This episode had lots more surprises, some of which are game changing to the show, like Chimney's brother, Albert, becoming a firefighter and a member of L. A. F. D. Also, Buck becomes Christopher's guardian. I love Buck and Eddie's relationship, and want to see more of Eddie and Buck than Buck and Taylor. Taylor really has to go.

One thing I didn't approve of was Maddie, who's been just crying about the baby for the last few episodes. We get it, she's depressed, the baby's ruining her life. Please, enough of that.

Great finale, and I'm glad this show got renewed for a season 5, because there's a lot more story to tell in the show.

The Buckley-Diaz family is officially C A N O N ! ! !
Jocelyn7225 May 2021
Warning: Spoilers
My whole heart belongs to them. Therefore i loved it so much that Eddie made Buck Christopher's legal guardian if something happened to him. That was the unexpected thing the cast talked about before right, because all the other things i saw coming from miles away. That's why i felt a bit underwhelmed with this episode. It was a good one, but i wanted somehow more after that amazing cliffhanger from last week. I will stay with the show for now, because of the Buckley Diaz family, but this season really was my least favorite one. And the way they still hold on to these, by most of the fandom unwanted, love interests still upsets, angers and disappoints me.

Thank god they didn't kill off Eddie, but wow this season finale was a let down in so many ways.

Warning: Spoilers
Eddie's been shot and dying and Maddie has postpartum, but we got time for multiple kissing scenes (that absolutely doesn't belong into this episode at all) while folks are dying? What is wrong with that show? I so have enough of it. First we have to endure Ana, who doesn't even have lines anymore and now we get Buck and Taylor again (after that mess from season 2). Newsflash showrunners i will never accept her character. Why didn't you bring back Ali instead. She was at least likable. Anyways kudos to Eddie and Chris who singlehandedly saved this episode for me and a special bonus for bamf Athena. That woman is da best.

Works mostly because of Buck, Eddie, and Christopher, but dragged down by Buck too.
asatasiman27 November 2022
Warning: Spoilers
A retroactive watch on this episode makes me realize that all the things that I like in this episode come from different combinations of these three.

GOOD

* Everything regarding the shooting that revolves around Buck, Eddie, and Christopher ONLY, is the highlight, more on that later. The intense rescue when Buck brings Eddie to the firetruck driving to the hospital, Buck telling Christopher his dad was shot with Christopher in turn comforting Buck when he gets the news Eddie survives the surgery, Buck and Eddie's bright faces when they meet again at the hospital after the shooting, and of course the infamous will scene. All hit the intended emotional beats and are acted very well by Oliver, Ryan, and Gavin. A shame that the will was apparently not important enough for Kristen to be discussed again, but bringing a woman for a stupid love triangle plot is much more necessary.

* Maddie's PPD. It's still nice to see the buildup to Maddie's story. It's just a shame that the resolution has to happen in one episode, and the aftermath is kind of there.

BAD

* The sniper story, which should've been the main focus, ends on a whimper. The reveal feels empty because the culprit is not someone the viewers had seen, Bobby getting shot ends up not contributing much to the plot other than Athena being a badass as usual, and the exploration on the case itself is kind of lacking partly because of time constraint.

* Buck and Taylor getting together. Lack of buildup on Taylor's feeling, gross kiss because kissing someone during a bad moment in someone's life when you're not together yet is creepy, Taylor's 180 degree characterization from wanting things casual to "you didn't chase after me," Buck having to settle (which we know takes a whole season with stupid failure of a love triangle plot and addition of a useless character) for this to work, and being set in an episode where Eddie makes Buck Christopher's legal guardian which despite them (Buck and Eddie) not together as a couple is more impactful and positive to Buck's character than whatever they're trying to cook up with Buck and Taylor. This relationship is set to fail, yet it takes a long time for it to end.

* Buck and Bobby's conversation feels off. Bobby is written like he doesn't understand that what happens to Eddie is greatly affecting Buck yet instead of gentle reassurance that Eddie will be fine or it's not Buck's fault and a request for Buck to not be reckless anymore, we get this...

Seeing two negative points above, you know where this goes? Too much focus on Buck who is not injured compared to Eddie who has little scenes. Mind you, those scenes with Eddie are impactful, but why do we need to see TAYLOR KELLY, who doesn't end up having emotional scenes with Eddie, having screentime with Buck and dedicate it to BUCK and Taylor getting together? Where are people's reaction to Eddie getting shot? WE HAD THAT IN THE TRAILER WHEN HEN AND CHIMNEY LISTENED TO THE RADIO. For a show that pushes on the found family aspect of it, they seem quite unfazed with one of them injured, no?

This episode turns out to not be as good as I first watch it for the first time, and it's good to me mostly because of some characters' interactions with each other.

After the last episode this was too slow.

Amazing how much screen time Athena and Capt Nash get. Almost like they have a pull with the directors.
