Does anyone realise
malvickery-7989611 June 2021
This entire series was filmed under Covid restrictions Mark Harmon filming scenes with his wife would have made things easier for for somebody who was in a higher risk category. Everything filmed and screened during this time has to be seen as not of the usual standard but a way of producing tv to fill a much needed new batch of episodes to keep viewers interested.

They don't make them like they used to.
davidmowbray-8503523 June 2021
Season 18, while not vintage NCIS has been entertaining with the caveat that they made the during a global pandemic, to be honest the writing was on the wall at the end of season 17, that was cut short so we should have been prepared for season 18 being, different.

No surprise that it was, but it was still good enough for me to look forward to season 19, I'm happy to cut the writer's, producers, actors and all the hundreds of other people needed to make NCIS the slack needed to get through the pandemic and get back to what for the most part they have done for the last 18 seasons, and done very well.

Season finale
notar0b0t2 June 2021
Warning: Spoilers
This season, every imdb review I've read said one thing: they ruined NCIS, it's dying, it's jumped the shark, etc.

Please! People already said that when Sasha Alexander left. They said that when Michael Weatherly left. Cote de Pablo left? Same thing. Maria Bello left? You know it... it's ending. Every time an actor leaves? Oh, the show is ending! While I do agree that some episodes were not as good as before the pandemic, it is certainly not that bad. NCIS has not taken the hit other shows have because of the pandemic. It is still NCIS.

Now, let's dig into this season finale! I liked Katrina Shaw and I think if she were to join NCIS full-time, I'd like it. In no way could she replace any of the previous characters, but that's not what the writers tried to do: for that I am grateful.

I was a fan of Bishop and Torres for a long time, they have a unique chemistry, which is why I was eagerly awaiting the moment they, as a couple, would happen. They "had the talk" in episode 14, in an elevator, behind closed doors. I was excited! Well, not about the not seeing it part of it, but at least it happened.

We had to wait two more episodes, almost at the last minute of this season finale, to learn what they had said. We didn't even really, but with Torres worrying about Bishop the way he did this episode, we could guess they hadn't ended things and he still had feelings for her.

Later, we learn she's going undercover and she says they cannot be together, she says goodbye and they kiss. That's it. The end. Pretty sudden and lacking, and not just as a fan of both their characters, but as a whole: it was underwhelming, anti-climactic. The writers had been building up to them being a couple so much? I'm disappointed. We did get a kiss, though, so that's that.

Great acting by both Emily Wickersham and Wilmer Valderrama!

I may be disappointed by the way their relationship ended, but her leaving NCIS and going undercover working for Odette makes sense. I'll give the writers that.

And Marcie? Before looking it up here, I thought she had no chemistry with Gibbs in any way whatsoever. Then I learned Pam Dawber and Mark Harmon were married in real life? No way. Maybe it speaks to their acting chops, the way they can act like total strangers. No matter why that is, I can't wait for her character to disappear... Come on, of course she's gonna be the next serial killer victim she and Gibbs are chasing! How could she not be?

And that ending? The boat blowing up and Gibbs seemingly swimming away? I cannot wait for Season 19. And I hope we can see more of David McCallum!

Now that I've finished writing all of this, it's become a very long review! So yeah, a mixed bag; parts I liked, parts I didn't and parts that could have been left out. But overall, pretty good, a solid 8.

Now, that is what I call a slam-bang cliffhanger! Pun semi-intended.
Carycomic26 May 2021
Warning: Spoilers
This episode had me guessing--quite literally--from start to finish.

I mean, first, there was the Gibbs-like slide across the floor of the basement crime scene where Bishop takes out two of the three gun-dealers. A b****s move that I initially interpreted as her trying to overcompensate for Gibbs, himself, still not having returned to the team!

Then came the discovery of that NSA file. How did a ten year-old security leak wind up in the hands of a Middle Eastern arms broker? And who could hate Bishop enough to want to frame her that elaborately?

Needless to say, her confession to Vance took me completely by surprise. It was only after her talks with McGee and Gibbs that I finally guessed what Bishop was up to; acceptance of Odette's job offer!

As for Gibbs and his new gal-pal, Marci the intrepid reporter? The plot development that they were getting bugged by an apparent serial killer really startled me. I mean, when most people hear the word "serial killer," the one thing they don't think of is someone who can plant electronic listening devices like a Watergate burglar! Is this psycho someone who was trained in spycraft like the Port-To-Port Killer (the renegade anti-terrorist who wound up murdering Mike Franks)? Is that the reason Gibbs pulled a Jason Bourne?

Obviously, we will all have to wait for Season 19 to learn the answers to these questions.

Wow - not what I expected

Warning: Spoilers
I like Bishop's character. I don't understand if she is truly leaving after the season or will make occasional appearances. ( As of the time I am writing this). Re Katrina Law, I watched her on Hawaii Five-O. She was great in the show and actually a pretty physical actor. I think she will make a good temporary addition to NCIS although I expect she will be part of the next spinoff NCIS Hawaii.. She's pretty used to living and working in Hawaii. I couldn't believe Gibbs was leaving the show or just in a different role now too. I think Sean Murray has done a great job handling Gibbs's functions. I understand when actors have been with a show forever may want a change or a break.

Been a fan since Season 1 - and now...
lynne-275567 June 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Ever since Gibb's over-the-top meltdown and resulting suspension, I've believed Mark Harmon was going to retire - after all, he's no spring chicken, and it's been a long run . And, having his real-life wife on the last few episodes convinced me beyond any doubt - until the very end of this finale.

I don't think he's leaving - unless he's going with Bishop - or another agency. I nearly jumped off my chair when the boat blew up - I'd been thinking that having him cruise off into the sunset in his finally-finished boat was probably a suitable ending, although disappointingly clichè. Then the explosion (thank the lord I wasn't holding a hot coffee) - then, when he swam - aha! - YESSS! It was a setup!

Something's afoot here, and I can't wait to see what turns up next season! (I sure hope I'm right, or I'm going to be an awfully disappointed fan).

What The???????????
bmiller593 June 2021
I saw this coming but didn't want to accept or believe in the possibility it could happen.

This ending is not what I have read about this season.

In disagreement with some of the other reviews, I believe this season got on track with what made it so good.

Please please don't do this to us lifers of this show. Too many shows have gone away which broke my heart, this cannot be a casualty.

It is always a risk
doug2go26 May 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Losing a key regular is always a risk and with Bishop walking away changes the dynamic of the show but Katrina Law could be a good addition - we will have to see how the chemistry works - she did OK on Hawaii 5-0 so lets hope she will fit in - she has the skills to do it but it will be up to the show runners to make it work. As for Gibbs - he may be retiring after getting blown up if he wasn't already - if so - I don't think Ziva is doing anything - might be a nice replacement to give some new energy to a a show starting to show its age.

I did feel Bishops departure was more than a little contrived - at first she didn't know what was going on and then apparently was told and confessed - Really ? She is upset at Gibbs for not coming back and than embarrasses NCIS by confessing to an act of espionage - doesn't work for me. The kiss good bye was sweet but ridiculous They Lost Ziva and survived - losing Bishop isn't as big a challenge but losing Gibbs might spell the end if a strong replacement isn't found - if they really want to kill the show put Scott Bakula in the job - he has killed more series with his over acting than any TV leading man.

Bishop deserved a better send-off than this, but maybe getting off this show is for the best.

If Gibbs leaves too not sure how much longer NCIS lasts.

Time to let it go.
gsanvin31 May 2021
The character of Leroy Gibbs is already 10+ years beyond the mandatory retirement age of the real NCIS. Time to recycle the show with new blood ala the original CSI and Law & Order or let it drift off in to television history.

Perhaps that's what they've been doing this season with Pam Dawber(Mark Harmon's wife) coming along for the farewell ride.

Bye and boom
Saving2126 May 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Like recent episodes this episode had two parts one was Gibbs and what he is doing while he is on suspension, investigating serial murders . The second part was the team investigation arms deal that Ended up in Bishop leaving to go undercover. From two seasons ago they started to write Ellie has someone that can be like Ziva like but it never worked for me, the actress doesn't fit for action character, it was better to keep her as she was previously smart tech agent. I think they wanted to do something more with Ellie as the action agent but the actress chose to leave so they wrote her going away to be undercover. Not sure I can buy her undercover secret agent.

The second part was Gibbs still on suspension bc he beat dog abuser. In his free time he is now after serial killer. This story is boring I love Gibbs but watching again and again him alone without his team is annoying frustrating, he is the best when he is guiding him team and not alone, they even took his cute dog away that added to his alone scenes .

Hope in the next season they will get Gibbs back to his team with the new agent .I love Katrina Law ever since the days of Arrow, I think she got well with the other cast and can be good with Gibbs. I think NCIS can still Work they just need to comeback to what works Gibbs and his team.

That about sums up this miserable season
Jackbv12327 May 2021
Warning: Spoilers
That desk is cursed. First it was Kate and that was a horrible send off albeit with some artistic merit. Then Ziva. Now Ellie. Each was my favorite character at the time and Ellie of all time, although I did not like what they did to her character after her previous boyfriend was killed.

They also killed my favorite director. And I kind of liked Jack, although she didn't rank for me with the other three agents.

This season has had some terrible episodes. Gibbs shooting McGee was stupid and I'm sure the writers thought they were clever justifying it. Gibbs is a very amoral hero or at least ambiguous and his latest tirade with the dog-killer just emphasizes that, although, who knows, maybe the writers will make that all part of some long game too. But even this isn't the first time.

I used to love this show, but now ...

Prognosis for the show is not good.
pook1-130 May 2021
I have been losing interest in this show since DiNozzo left and now it looks like another major cast change oh well. Its getting boring but at least it's not like NCIS LA or NO where everyone member of the team are a couple.

A solid finale!
harrykivi7 October 2023
Warning: Spoilers
The 18th season has been a mixed bag for me, it started off very well, but after "1mm" the stories got rather stupid. Only few episodes in this season have impressed. "Rule 91" is fortunately one of them. It's a pretty good finale, though not fantastic.

Let's start with the good aspects.

. The production values of the episode are great as usual. "Rule 91" is very well directed, the music fits the scenery and the acting's good for the most part. Emily Wickersham gives one of her better performances in this episode.

. The mystery is compelling, there are some neat surprises here and there. Like the setup with the serial killer storyline.

But...

. The humor does not always work and comes off awkward at times. Casey is a hit or miss character for me, in this episode I found her rather annoying. Do agree with a previous reviewer that Ellie Bishop needed a better sendoff. Her storyline would have been more emotional if the buildup was better.

Overall, a good episode.

7/10 HK.

Shame to say goodbye like this
kocsisabel29 May 2021
Warning: Spoilers
The magic of this show used to be that the team is a family which had its problems but love, trust, and help solved all of them. I have no idea what the writers are doing, but this entire season was a mess and ended with the worst episode I have ever seen. Gibbs continues suffering and Bishop fails the team as well as her best friend. It is a shame to write a so cruel and selfish goodbye to a character like Ellie. (Note that all main characters so far were given some nice goodbye moments, but Bishop)

Out with the old and in with the new isn't working!
delliottq25 May 2021
The introduction of the mediocre Jack Sloane was tolerable, but the new agent Knight is just not a good fit as an NCIS agent and, if she stays and Gibbs goes, I'll absolutely stop watching the show. The chemistry has been going off already and the new addition makes that even worse. Add to that the loss of other key characters and I believe it's time to bow out gracefully.

just let it die ffs
neighbourskid26 May 2021
This show has genuinely been dead for years now and i don't understand why they won't just let it die (well, money i guess). But honestly after a season that could've been such a nice set-up for gibbs to finally retire and the show to end, to finish it with this mess? Who makes these choices? Terrible finale. And don't even get me started on the bishop (and torres) thing.

Torres, Jimmy, & Jessica Knight?
Johnny_West27 May 2021
Wow, Bishop did not get much character development in the eight years she was on the show. What does anyone know about her, her family, school, best friends, etc? Nothing, but at least she acted like a real NCIS Agent. Now that Gibbs's character has been re-written into a useless bozo, all that is left is the bland vanilla acting of McGee as the main agent. Kasie Hines (Diona Reasonover) is the only character this is interesting.

The rest of the crew is now 70s Show Torres, Jimmy the comedy coroner, and Jessica Knight the annoying intruder. NCIS is really lame these past couple of seasons, and this cast of clowns is depressing to watch.

By the way, when this show started, there were 7 rules, then 12, then it jumped up to 20, then it was up to 40s. Now the last rule is 91? For real? Did Gibbs add another 50 rules while he was suspended, and sitting at home smelling his dog's farts?

Constantly feeding his dog little pieces of steaks and sausages out of his own plate is not healthy for dogs. I lost a lot of respect for Gibbs as a dog owner, if he does not even bother to buy quality dog food for his dog. It seems like the new Gibbs just does whatever is easy for him.

Ugh! NCIS/CBS producers & writers have failed
EmoEl26 May 2021
First they STUPIDLY CANCELED my favorite NCIS NOLA and then this ANNOYING episode where we lose Ellie, Gibbs is still gone, and I keep wishing Katrina Law would go back to Hawaii. Maybe she will move to the new Hawaii spin off that I will not be watching.

Pity. I was looking forward to the Torres/Bishop story line. Silly me. Probably gonna get more of the new woke storylines that have ruined and driven me away from most of my other favorite network shows. Thank goodness for Netflix.

Lazy Writing Persist
ActionLover765412 October 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Failure to develop Bishop as an action hero (until lazily cramming it into the last dang episode she is in).

Failure to properly write the new Lady into the show from her previous life in Hawaii 5-0 (just like "boom boom" lmao from NCIS Hawaii and Seal Team).

Failure for Torres or Bishop to act like adults. Bishop demands an apology from Gibbs for getting suspended, when she is leaking classified intel to she can run off and do secret squirrel stuff with the lady in the woods. Btw she will not be very good at her job if she requests MK12s when she wants a MK18 (ish gun)

Failure to reference correct weapons by Bishop in the presence of Torres, then failure for them not realizing that the weapon Bishop references is more like a MK18, not MK12 and the weapons they use when the situation dictates are equivalent to (same operating system) and/or bigger than the guns they found, which is literally what he wanted. You can literally find this on Wikipedia. Just lazy. Kind of like in the next episode when Gibbs says the guy isn't a real cop bc his badge is on the wrong side of his shirt .

Good riddance to Bishop though, glad she is out in place of the far more interesting character (Katrina Law) with the pants that come past her ankles. Maybe I'd have liked her more if they gave her a better wardrobe, ehh. She could have been good, but they didn't really develop her into that. They need someone like Law on the show. Seems like Torres was supposed to be that guy, but they've neutered him into just an emotional funny person. I liked her on Hawaii 5-0, and she will bring a swift kick in the pants to the show, which it needs. Maybe if they go back to Bishop as secret squirrel lady from time to time she would be more interesting. Before NCIS NO got cancelled, they had a chance to bring a character on like her in Riann Steele, but they failed to make that work and instead persisted with the Gregario character, which didn't really help the show in my opinion. I was very excited when I thought Steele would be on, and when that fell through, the show didn't really excite me anymore. Kind of like this show. When you lose great stars like the original NOLA supporting cast or Ziva and Toni in this show, you have to replace them with interesting exciting characters. Not boring hipsters. Also, the Abby replacement makes me laugh now.

Just sad
koohii20 April 2023
The only thing worse than the fact that this show has become such a banal soap opera is the fact that it's still better than most of the shows on TV.

The bar is that low.

This episode is rife with idiotic plot holes--probably the worst I've ever seen on NCIS--maybe because they were trying to cram so much into a season finale?

Remember when Bishop was a quirky tech-savvy genius capable of putting together clues and connections? Yeah, the writers of this season don't.

Remember when McGee was a tech genius who knew about computers and cyber security and was also a competent field agent? Yeah, the writers of this season don't.

Remember when Torres was a tough guy with a soft center? Yeah, the writers of this season don't.

Remember when Gibbs was conflicted about being a murderer for avenging the deaths of his wife and daughter? Yeah, the writers of this season don't.

Remember when this show was about investigating crimes involving the Navy? Yeah, the writers of this season don't.

The only character who has plausibly played the character assigned him has been Director Vance. I can actually believe he's an agency administrator, having to play parent to a bunch of agents who are acting like unruly children. And he's finally willing to crack down and discipline them. You know, for the good of the agency. Honestly, the whole team should have been fired for even considering destroying evidence.

Well, now I'm only a year behind on this show. Hopefully the new year will bring some much needed competence to the writing staff.

Never again
CrimeDrama114 March 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I was extremely angry the first time I watched this episode and will never watch it again. Most of season 18 is bad. The way Agent Ellie Bishop is written off the show is stupid. It is almost as bad as the way the show's creative team got rid of Agent Caitlyn Todd (Sasha Alexander) in the season two finale (Gibbs was the intended target). To this day, Tony and Ziva as a couple doesn't make sense. Maybe they hooked up and she got pregnant followed by co-parenting after the baby is born - nothing more than that. Why the intense feelings between Torres and Bishop but NOTHING ever happened? Those two as a couple made a lot more sense but the writers were never given the green light to bring them together.

Emily Wickersham may never win an Emmy or an Oscar but she was totally convincing on NCIS. I always think about her as Ellie.

I like the Agent Nick Torres character but Wilmer should have improved his speaking skills over the years. Too often he just mumbles his lines. He should have learned by now how to speak English with no accent. Plenty of actors with natural accents have done it.

The only thing positive about the loss of Bishop's character is the addition of Katrina Law as Agent Jessica Knight because she is, by far, the most like Agent Gibbs (no, not Ziva). I had this thought before deducing Mark Harmon's role as Gibbs was ending. What didn't he do, anyway? With Gibbs gone, Knight's role is much more important. Parker is definitely not Gibbs so having Knight on the team long-term is key.
