Criminal life ain't that romantic.
Ropiel20 April 2022
This is it,this is what i want from this show

Club affairs, violence and the karma of the sinner, that's what i signed for, what Sons of Anarchy was remembered for.

This show can't pretend to have that romance, that melodramatic almost teen show feel half the episodes and then go back to the essence of criminality, season 3 was ruined because of it,the greatest scenes washed by the boring life of secondary characters that don't really matter

This pilot was 100% Mayans and i loved every second of it,please let the rest of the season be this way please make me love this show again

Only disappointment would be that they didn't bring the first opening back, being the finale season especially that's a shame.

Not bad, not bad
erichydeman8 May 2022
I had to write this because I've seen another review talking about the episode being unrealistic because this takes place in an "American city." Bro, this is a fictional town on the border of Mexico. Look at California's border. It's going to be a small town that probably is already looking the other way when it comes to gun fights. Some people will create the most ridiculous reasons to hate on something.

Anyway, the pace of the episode wasn't the best, as the lull in combat later on seems to come out of nowhere. If anything negative, they may have just written themselves in a corner with how they ended season 3, or maybe they always planned on keeping Canche alive.

The show benefits from the presence of Carla Baratta and her storyline, and unfortunately this episode did not feature her at all.

I don't know how or why Marcus Alvarez ended up at the clubhouse. But he stopped what should've been a show-ending massacre of the Santo Padre crew. However, it's clear he will have a much bigger presence in the club's culture going forward.

AMAZING AND INTENSE EPISODE
Skanama21 April 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Seen Episode 1 and it was a beautifully directed, written, and acted hour that underscored just how far these characters are willing to go to save each other.

The entire hour was intense, with people killed left, right and center and the desire of the people inside the building to survive was admirable.

It was truly a life or death scenario, but it was obvious that EZ and company were outnumbered.

EZ offering his life to save Angel, Nails, Bishop and the others brought out all of EZ's best traits it was truly admirable He wanted the bloodshed to end with him but in this unforgiving world of eye for an eye, why would Canche accept such a deal lol

Nah but really excellent recovery, the episode was intense and brilliant no downtime I can tell you that we had our expectations after the 3x10 cliffhanger, the atmosphere and the atmosphere of the episode was terrifying and quite depressed I really love the survival side of the madness of men nah really breathtaking episode.

Seriously? 8.5?
FilmBrat10521 April 2022
What more does the collective want? After a fairly dry season 3 we are presented the best premiere of the show so far and one of the best premieres in the lore overall and it doesn't even get a 9.0 minimum? Maybe the fans & reviewers are just tasteless?

One of the best episodes filmed.
darrel07621 June 2022
The direction makes this episode feel like a movie. This season for that matter, has been the darkest feeling, with that B rating feel completely gone. This is now a seriously good series, and the direction has done this.

People take shows to seriously
ryangeneralemail19 May 2022
Warning: Spoilers
This episode had me on the edge of the seat. What people need to understand is it's a TV show! Yeah in real life all would be dead but then we won't have a show. Just sit back and relax! Geez.

They sure are lucky those walls stop bullets!
jasongerrish23 April 2022
I love how they avoid the windows to not get shot. Those must be some pretty tough clapboards and Sheetrock to not let bullets through!! EZ is also protected from bullets by the asphalt shingles. I also think the writers get paid extra for every use of f$&k in the dialogue.

Plot, script, etc thrown aside for terrible long gunfight
grlym-4684923 April 2022
So I was super excited to see the show come back.

Then it started....

The intro made me think maybe this season will dip into Hispanic culture and historical plight...

Then ensues a 47 minute nonsense gun fight and so many F words that I think even the actors lost tract of any sense of tone for the scene or show. I get that the ahiw portrays uneducated thugs which means prolific cuss words would be natural in real life. But in a tv show it's supposed to help set tone. But when that's all they can do, I very thing just becomes comically bad. The script was horrific. Ludicrous bullet repellent paper walls. A million shooters, but no one can shoot out lights

They built up a finale that they couldn't properly follow up on in the premiere.

And the halt and hard left near the end was so contrived. They clearly shows a path that there was only one path possible. Instead throw this stupid option that made zero sense.

Jumped the shark. Hard.
hqjtrbck22 April 2022
So we are to believe that the Battle of Fallujah breaks out in an American city and nary a siren? Seriously? This isn't nitpicking. It was literally the entire episode.

Someone calls 911 and then hangs up and there is no follow up from the authorities?

Good thing those magic bullets only seem to hit the no names.

EZ is on fire one minute and then nothing is made of it again.

No passers by just happen to notice dozens of people firing thousands of rounds?

I can excuse an occasionally unrealistic gunfight if it is brief and the participants actually make an effort to leave the scene. But here they are blazing away for 45 minutes and then literally just sitting on the floor twiddling their thumbs.

Keystone Cops defend their clubhouse!
Blumpkin199110 June 2022
It's sad when the best tactical mind in the clubhouse is the girl behind the bar. The roof scenes were especially bad. What do you do when people are shooting at you? Stand up tall and make yourself the biggest target possible!

When EZ and Hank were pinned down, all they had to do was slide back a few feet to safety. Instead, Hank stood up to provided covering fire that wasn't needed- and got shot in the leg.

What should you do when you hear someone on the roof? Abandon all defensive positions and investigate!

It was nice of Canche to switch to siege tactics as soon as Santo Padre ran low on ammo. Then... POOF! Canche's entire crew is right outside the front door when EZ walks out.

Yes, it's a tv show. They don't need to look like SEAL Team Six in action. But come one, is it too much to expect a little common sense?

Disappointing
vam-vm27 April 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I've watched and enjoyed the show since it's beginning. This episode disappointed me a lot. The 45 minute shootout. Thousands of rounds of ammo spent shooting at each other from not much more than 50 yards. At one point a bright light was turned on by the "good" Mayans exposing 25 or more "bad" Mayans at point blank range. Immediately the good guys fired their ak's directly at the brightly lit bad guys. All those bullets didn't do much good It seemed there were just as many bad guys at the end as there were at the start. The local cops must have decided just to let the Mayans settle it amongst themselves because they didn't bother to show up even tho they had to have dozens of calls reporting ww 3 going on at the Mayan club.

As the good guys are realizing that they've lost, out of ammo, the bad guys were kind enough to halt their attack long enough to allow the good guys enough quiet time to talk among themselves about the pros and cons of mc life. What were they thinking.

What a cop out
rafhatefools27 April 2022
Awful choreography. When the bad guys are all clumped together they don't throw their petrol bombs but insist on launching them on the empty concrete without a soul in shot.

Good guys stand out in the open and dont get shot if they're a named character. All the red shirts get hit or killed even stood behind impenetrable wooden slatted walls.

When a member of the club sneaks into the club through the entire enemy forces nobody's first reaction is "Let's sneak the same way out!".

It made no sense how the episode ends and essentially erased this episode and the end of last season and all the build up to it. EZ might as well have woken from a dream.

Just incredibly terrible
Xavier_Stone6 May 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Even if you like gun fights this is abysmal. Shooting for 45 minutes and nobody can seem to hit anything. Then they magically get a stop to it when one side runs out of ammo.

Seriously, 1 star is all this episode gets. It's embarrassing.

Hahahaha...
ecsecs-9122523 June 2022
This episode was beyond laughable. Not an ounce of drama.. why, because the action was so far fetched, the acting was so bad, the gun fight choreography was so cartoon like I was rolling around in laughter. Seriously did the IQ of the film crew and writers just nose dive due to Covid? Anyway I couldn't finish, I could only have my intelligence insulted for so long.. someone tell me how did it end... Lol.

And, just like that...
silverton-379591 August 2023
Warning: Spoilers
OK, I had to keep checking to see whether I was watching The Walking Dead. Then I checked to see if Angela Kang had become the showrunner. No, it was Mayans MC alright. Somebody messed up somewhere. EZ had blown up Canche's kid trying to kill Canche. Bad move, and dumb, too. So, all at once, about 100 guys that we never even knew existed came and starting throwing molotovs over the scrapyard fence and then, The Santo Mayans turned out to be only 8 guys, and all of their rifles were in a van that wasn't even there. Oops. That was a real bonehead deal, huh? EZ and the girls had to make molotovs out of half empty liquor bottles. BTW, we all know that you really can make a fire bomb out of a half bottle of El Toro, I mean, sure.

So, EZ had done killed 40 or so unknowns from a bunch of other chapters and they were down to 3 pistols with a few rounds each, so they made speeches for awhile, then went outside so Canche could make this long speech with his head all burned up in the back. Good thing that Marcus happened to drop by because he told everybody that it's his club and they all better shut up and sit down. Of course, everybody just shut up and sat down, I guess, because then the episode was over. I wonder if the 10 star shills will kind of stop shilling after this one. I mean, it would be dumb for them to say "GREATEST EPISODE EVER!!!!" after the rest of us saw this one. I don't think I saw the greatest episode, myself.

Bring back Kurt, or can it!
big_tom567 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
After Sutter left I was apprehensive, but ended up not minding season 3, despite what others say. It built up quite nicely with such a poor reward in the end.

For a season premier, this was boring, unnecessarily drawn out and unrealistic.

The best part was Canche's speech towards the end, and the fact that it actually ended, eventually.

Personally I think it would've been better ending season 3 with a shorter and better edited version of this gunfight and end the episode and season with Alvarez turning up.

The studio need to get some better writers in asap as it feels it's lost it's edge since Kurt's departure.

What did I just watch.
dimitriskousos28 July 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Being a massive fan of SoA i was really happy when this Series was announced. After i watched season 1-2 i thought i'll give them time and hope this series is building to something. After watching a mediocre season 3 with few good episodes i was hoping for something that could come close to what Sons of Anarchy had to offer.

Not even close. Sadly, this season opens with a terrible plot, a terrible LONG gunfight that makes ZERO sense and lots of plot holes. Even the acting seems terrible now as if the actors don't want to be in this series.

It really saddens me thinking what this series could be and how great potential it had..

I gave the episode three stars because of Marcus Alvarez last words "What have you done" and i would like to add what have YOU done to this series and to this Universe.

Outstanding

The club is lost and EZ is the pathfinder. So this episode shows how Bishops leadership has kind of faltered but definitely has not dissipated thanks to EZ's bravery. What a way to start season 4.

Who wrote this crap?
pingtime-768-687626 April 2024
Mayans M. C. Season 4 Episode 1 left much to be desired. It seemed like a soap opera on steroids, with a plot that stretched believability to its limits. From the contrived twists to the murky character motivations, the writing fell flat, failing to engage viewers in a meaningful way. The episode felt like a missed opportunity to kick off the season with a bang, instead delivering a lacklustre start that left fans scratching their heads. Here's hoping the rest of the season finds its footing and gets back on track. I give it one out of ten. The writers need to come up with something a lot better next episode.
