Better than Korean version
mcmugged15 June 2020
I have to agree with other reviewers who said this Taiwanese version of Fated to Love You is better than the Korean version (which I had seen 2 or 3 years ago).

I am just now discovering Taiwanese dramas. I once started to watch one on Netflix but couldn't tolerate the voices and language. However, I have since found that it must have been just the one drama because I have now watched at least 3 Taiwanese dramas which I thoroughly enjoyed. The exception here--there are some characters in this drama who have irritating voices, especially the pregnant sister character. The grandmother also has a very high voice which can be annoying when she talks too much.

What makes the Taiwanese version a better drama than the Korean one is here the story is handled better. It makes more sense to believe this couple could go through the ups and downs the way it is shown here. In the Korean version, the story goes from sweet to hurtful and cruel. It would be too traumatic to believe the couple could get over that kind of suffering.

Why did I decide to watch this Taiwanese drama when I would not have watched the Korean version again? One reason--Dylan. In my opinion, Dylan is the most interesting character in this drama and the actor who plays him (Baron Chen) is absolutely charismatic. I watched him in Bromance and that is why I watched this drama--to see more of him. The two main leads in this drama are both very good and they do have good chemistry. That is why I binge-watched this and enjoyed it.

If there was anything that could have been improved, I think they dragged it out a little bit too much. But it gave me more time to watch Dylan which was good.

It's okay.

Lacks the chemistry and charm of the K-version. The characters are more simple, with some reduced to just good or bad, and the male lead lacks nuance so he just comes off as a constant jerk.

Cruelest Script Ever!!!!
PalmBeachG19 August 2022
Called You're My Destiny on my Netflix suggestion, the concept of a one-night stand with a rich executive on a cruise ship and getting pregnant caught my attention as a possible cute comedy. It started off cute, so I got sucked in the first couple of episodes as the main actor Ethan Juan also seemed intriguing and handsome. Usually watch K-drama but with the description of the theme gave it a try. It soon turned to the cruelest script I have ever seen in my life, and I should have known better not to watch a so-called comedy that involved a baby. There was nothing funny about it as the whole theme of this series turned out to be more about abortion - for more reason than one and female psychological abuse. As the series went on, the intriguing and handsome actor turned into a babbling fool with stupid animated expressions almost like a slap-stick style. The worst was the later episodes, especially the barrel scene - I just couldn't take it anymore. All I can say about this is the main lead really should stick with roles that keep his dignity of the handsome intriguing roles, and the writer needs to learn how to make a comedy with less series issues as the main theme. Never again. The only reason I gave it 3 stars was for the first couple of episodes and the original concept idea.

This Does Not Compare to the Much Better Korean Version

I have had the dubious pleasure to watch three versions of this drama and can honestly say that I find this version the most annoying presentation of them all. The writing and direction were poorly executed. The acting was over wrought. The leads had little to no chemistry. The lead female was downright annoying and stupid! I persisted to the end of the series with great regret and was glad when it was finally over and done with. This series has to be among one of the most disappointing I've ever watched.
