Not today. Today he was collateral damage.

Early in the morning, a man was playing x-box games and he started chattering with his girlfriend when they heard a noise coming from outside. He opened up the door and found the upstairs neighbor lying unconscious on the ground, probably shoved down the stairs by somebody. Neither the stairwell nor the victim's apartment show evidences of any perp, because there weren't any prints left apart the ones related to the victim. They know for sure that a stalker was harassing her in the last two years, but Brooks and Devlin are convinced she had staged the fall to keep police attention towards her. The stalker is an inmate who has just got out of prison where he was relegated due to computer fraud; he's a smooth operator who managed to use prison computer without leaving any tracks thanks to cellmates cooperation. When the victim is murdered, police officers change their mind.

Steel is too tough towards Devlin at the trial, but it's for the greater good. Anyway it's not nice to be treated like a stupid cop. Maybe something hard to heal happened in the team.
