Interesting, educational detailing of one of WW2's critical campaigns
grantss4 October 2021
In August 1942 US Marines storm ashore on the Japanese-held island of Guadalcanal. After a series of defeats and withdrawals, this is the first time the Allies have gone on the offensive against the Japanese. The six-month campaign that follows is brutal and becomes etched in Marine legend.

A very interesting documentary, detailing the Guadalcanal campaign. Shows well just how tough an assignment it was for the Marines, so close run a thing it was and how easily it could have been a US defeat. Also shows the cost the Marines paid.

Well narrated with relevant, insightful interviews and decent graphics and archival footage.

A historic disaster, fire your researchers.

Warning: Spoilers
This is a great example of lousy research, many times the film did not match the narrative. Marines were armed with 03 Springfield's, not Garand's. It also showed a B29 Superfortess. They were not operational yet. The marines did not get Garand's until the Army arrived later to reinforce them, and they came up missing. This is only some of the mistakes made in this film. The devil is in the details.

Shot in Texas: We Couldn't Lose In Galveston
Goofs: We didn't have flame throwers; it was too early in the war. Shows footage of flame throwers. Admission of war crimes, we took no prisoners for most of the war.
